Had dinner at Scrag & Roe last night, Sunday July 7. Two couples at a table for four in the bar.
Menu's and drinks were delivered promptly, and our order for multiple plates followed soon after. 2 of us had planned to share several items.
The shared plates were the Tuna Tar Tare, Grilled Prawns, Salmon Roe Toast Points, Seared Scallops with Mushrooms in a beautiful Mushroom Sauce. We finished by sharing the Grilled Whole Snapper with a side of Asperge. The ladies both had Gnocchi.
Every dish was "on point", the flavor profile, seasonings and sauces with each plate were an explosion of international flavors. Dessert of Pound Cake and Cookie Plate were the perfect culmination of a perfect meal.
The place was busy, the bar room where we were sitting was full and it was all locals. Service from Michelle and Naomi was perfectly timed and as always cheerful and warm.
That was the best meal I've had this year, and can't wait to get back ASAP. We're lucky to have a place serving food at that level in our...
Read moreIf I listed all the amazing things I love about Scrag and Roe this review would be a novel so I will try to keep it short! The food rivals any Michelin Star restaurant that I have eaten at around the world - you can tell that it is all authentic and that Nathan has experienced these cuisines first hand through all his travels. Not to mention that every dish has a story behind it and he is more than happy to divulge in the adventure he had that led him to create that dish and put it on the menu. I also have celiac disease and I love going to a restaurant where I don’t have to worry about getting gluten poisoning- the menu is well labeled with what is gluten free and they are also happy to make any substitutions to make a dish possible for me to eat. The restaurant’s atmosphere is also so fun and magical and the cocktails are out of this world. If you are in the MRV and have the chance to experience Scrag and Roe consider...
Read moreWe visit the Mad River Valley as much as we can (and love the local restaurants up here) but this was the first time at Scrag and Roe and WOW. We are so grateful it was recommended to us. We had a seat by the window overlooking the river. We were a little early for our reservation but the host was so friendly and sat us as soon as he could. The food was excellent - very unique for the area especially. It all tasted so fresh and delicious. Our waitress was awesome - very attentive and engaging. I love how they serve everything in a way that encourages guests to share (I love being able to eat more than one thing on the menu :) We will definitely be passing on the recommendation and coming back for our next date night when we’re...
