I visited this book store today January 2nd, 2015 and thought the service was fabulous. The owner was incitful and helped me find everything i needed. He can give you a synopsis of basically any book. I asked him for a book on the brain and he gave me three books to chose from and told me about each of them, why they were good places to start researching and why. I asked for Fahrenheit 451 and he knew exactly where it was. He was unbelievably knowledgable on all fields I spoke on with him. I also purchased a Latin Dictionary. He recommended books for bookclubs and told us all about them and how popular they were. Also, he has almost every book you can think of and if he is out of stock, he can refer you to a book online. He has awesome trains and all sorts of nik-naks that go around the shop. He is also a college professor of three different classes: Statistics, Biology, and Human Senses. He majored in Biology at University of Chicago and got his PhD. He is informative, intelligent, well read and can refer you to fantastic books. This has been one of the best experiences of my Sugarbush Ski Vacation, and I highly recommend going to this store. Must...

The eclectic selection of new and used books, cards, puzzles, records, and more makes for a lovely afternoon of browsing. The owner, Rick, is a gem of a human with so much knowledge to share about a wide variety of topics. He takes the time to talk with each customer and make them feel welcome in his shop, and the money he makes selling used books is generously donated to a local food bank. Rick even went out of his way to share a book from his personal collection with me after our chat. If you’re in the area, make sure you stop by...
Read moreI've visited Tempest countless times and have never come away with the slightest hint of disappointment or without a smile on my face. Rick is the ultimate bookseller - as knowledgeable, scholarly, helpful, kind, caring and sharing as you will ever find. He is a well-educated, friendly, customer-oriented book seller successfully running his own independent shop. If you are accustomed to buying books at one of the big name stores, where customer service is hard to find and you may even have to chase someone to get an answer, you will find a warm Vermont welcome and answers to all your book-related...
