Let me just start off by saying I've been a casual at Mickey's for a couple of months now and have always loved their hot n' blu & the mango habanero wings, cozy atmosphere, choice of music, and friendly service staff. Hell, I've even flat out started arguments against friends & family who've suggested going out for wings on days opposite to Mickey Gannon's wing nights (any day that isn't Tuesday for the bone-in wings or Thursday for the boneless.) Unfortunately, due to the events of my last visit (2 hours before I've written this review), and as much as it hurts to, I have to change my review from 5 stars to 2. Firstly, the service was fantastic as always. As soon as I sat down I had a menu on my table and a smile from the lady who asked me what drink I wanted. I've never had an experience here where I felt uncomfortable or unwelcomed, nor will I ever expect to while I'm there. However, as soon as me and the guys finished our meals it was of course our turn to pay for the wonderful dinner and the fantastic experience I've grown accustomed to on Tuesday nights, and that's when disaster struck.
2 WINGS (10 CT.) $25.00 HOT N' BLU HOT BLEU CHEESE & CELERY (4 Oz.) $8.00 WING NIGHT DISCOUNT (10) -$8.00
Our wing night discount was cancelled out by the addition of blue cheese and celery. To my knowledge I have never paid this much on a wing night, and the thing is I always get the same sauces but sometimes I mix it up and get root beer instead of water, and have never recalled paying $34 (that includes tax and tip) on a tuesday. I'm hoping this was just an off night or even just a bad dream in which I can wake up from on a Tuesday morning and have something to look forward to at 5:00pm. I understand that everything is becoming more expensive and certain things change, but 8 dollars for celery sticks, carrot sticks, and blue cheese hurt me in ways I wouldn't be able to explain on a Google review. I had always hoped wing nights at Mickey's was something I could count on after a hard day's work with the boys, but right now I'm just not sure with how things are going. I'll always have the fond memories with me, and who knows, maybe I'll give them another try in the future. No one mixes hot sauce and blue cheese like Mickey, nor does the root beer ever taste so crisp anywhere else. However, due to the recent events - at this time and starting from this very moment, there will no longer be wings nights at Mickey's for...
Read moreGannon's is the quintessential Scranton Irish pub. I don't think I can pay any bar in this area a higher compliment. In a world where generally the "Irish Pub" has been 'Starbucked'*, Mickey Gannon's is a refreshing monument of authenticity. Right when you walk in the bar lighting and delicious smells of authentic pub food capture your eyes and nostrals. I was served by Jenn who was great. She said they carry local beers and suggested a pint of their new keg from Barnyard Cidery. I'd had their dry at Alter House so I was excited to taste their apple ginger called the First Edition. Having a cider at an Irish pub just feels right. And the food was stellar! You gotta check...
