Great food, horrible server. In summary, our first time here ended in anaphylactic shock and the second, last night, we waited an hour and half at our table before we even got our drinks. We ended up walking out before getting anything.
The first time we went here we placed a takeout order and spoke to a male server over the phone. We ordered pho and spring rolls. The server asked whether we wanted shrimp or veggie and my partner, having a severe shrimp allergy, said "veggie, I have a shrimp allergy." We got the takeout and went home. My partner had one spring roll before going into anaphylactic shock. I tried the spring roll, it was the shrimp. We called them and told them this, and they gave a slight apology. While this was upsetting, we were just glad he was okay and understood that the restaurant was relatively new and maybe this was a fluke mistake.
A few months later we decided to try the place again, as there are limited pho places in west Seattle. We went last night at around 8pm. They were busy, but there were empty tables and we were seated. We waited about 20 minutes until water was brought to us and our orders were taken (2 bowls of pho and 2 cocktails from their drink menu). We understood they were busy and that the kitchen was probably busy, and entertained ourselves for another hour until we caught the attention of our server (same male server from the anaphylaxis day) and asked if our drinks were at least ready as we had been at the place and hour and 20 min already. He asked us what we ordered. We reminded him. He smiled and said they were busy (keep in mind he's been continuing to seat people during this rush) and then he went over to the POS system and didn't enter anything. We waited another 10 minutes until he came over to us and asked what we ordered again. We repeated the order and then he entered it into the POS system. We still hadn't even gotten our drinks yet and he had fired absolutely nothing. At this point we told him we were walking out as this was ridiculous. We both work in restaurants and patient when it comes to busy nights and mess ups. However, his lack of an even semi genuine apology was astonishing and unlike any restaurant I've ever been to. We understand they were busy, but this went beyond the realms of a normal rush, and he absolutely shouldn't have continued seating people if they couldn't keep up with a normal night on alki.
However, we ended up going to sunfish afterwards and the owners were lovely and the food was delicious and they were incredibly kind and wonderful. Go there or literally any place under the sun aside from...
Read moreWe were riding our E-bikes along Alki Beach when we spotted this restaurant and decided to stop in. My wife wanted a Bahnmi sandwich but she had also been craving pho, so it seemed like the perfect place to check out and maybe add to our list of go-to spots when we're in town. The decor was clean and comfortable--nothing flashy, just a nice, welcoming setup. It's not a huge place, but there's a fair amount of seating, especially when you include the bar area. The overall vibe is kind of a mix between a sports bar and an Asian restaurant, with TVs in the bar showing different games, which is great if you like to catch some sports while you eat.
They also have a full bar, so you can enjoy a drink with your meal or just relax with a cocktail while watching a game. My wife ordered the combo pho, and I went with the chicken and shrimp vermicelli bowl. The service was excellent--Jenni and the rest of the staff were friendly and kept checking in to make sure we had everything we needed.
The only thing I wasn't crazy about was that the vermicelli bowl came with just two shrimp on a skewer. To get more, I had to order the shrimp skewers separately, which came with four skewers and two shrimp on each. That part could've been better, but the food itself was delicious--fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared.
I also liked how close it was to our Airbnb, which made it a super convenient stop after a long day. Overall, great food, great service, and we'll definitely be back next time...
