I was out walking my dog on a beautiful Saturday early evening and saw 2 vacant outdoor chairs in front of Driftwood. I had been at this location under a variety of ownership and wondered what this new place would be like. Alki is a casual beach neighborhood that I have been comning to for most of my life. It offers a spectacular view of Elliott bay as well as close proximity to Seattle. I ask the hostess if the seat outside was ok since I had a small dog with me. She waves me to sit down and someone would be right out. It was still early and noticed there weren't many diners in the restaurant. I was interested in a quick cocktail and then on my way. After sitting for about 5 minutes, I stood up to see if I could spot a server. Finally, someone noticed me and came to get my order. I was looking for a Kettle One martini served ice cold, no vermouth drop of pineapple. The kind server said.....We only serve local spirits. Ok, please pick for me. Server says: We only serve local fruits. Ok....that means no grapefruit juice either? Nope..... Ok, I will take two olives in my martini. Server says: Nope, do not have those either. Lemon twist? No, but we can spray lemon oil on the drink. That was 4 No's in a row and all I wanted was a chilled vodka with drop of something in it. After my very delicious drink finally appeared (the lemon oil spray made it lovely) I asked the server if I could please have a small cup of water for my dog? A moment later, the hostess comes to me and reports that dogs are not allowed on the deck and therefore, they do not have any receptical for dog water. I apologized not having seen anything indicating dogs were not allowed to sit outside. She said 'no, not here, on the other deck'. Ok. well, now I am confused. Why are you telling me dogs aren't allowed here when they are? Most places have dog bowels outside so passer bys with their pets can drink. Bottom line. If it is this difficult to get a $20 cocktail the way you want it, go anywhere else. Life just cannot be this...
Read moreI absolutely love everything about this place! From the moment you step in, it's clear why so many people make reservations—this spot is popular for a reason. If you're planning to visit, definitely book ahead because it fills up fast, and once you experience it, you'll understand why.
I've seen some reviews mentioning the prices, but let's be real—you're paying for local, fresh ingredients. This isn't just a meal; it's an investment in high-quality, flavorful food, beautiful presentation, and supporting local businesses. You truly get what you pay for here, and it's worth every penny.
Some people complain about the wait time, but I say take a moment to watch the kitchen in action. It's like a well-choreographed dance. The chefs are constantly preparing, creating magic with every dish, and the other staff are incredibly attentive. They're aware that diners are there for a complete experience and not just quick interactions. If you need something, just catch their eye and wave—they'll be at your table promptly, ready to assist. They're courteous, professional, and never intrusive. I appreciate that they don't ask how your meal is 20 seconds after it arrives. They give you time to savor each bite before checking in.
The food? Simply amazing. Every dish bursts with flavor, and the presentation is always top-notch. We’ve recommended this place to countless friends and family, and everyone has come back raving about their experience. To those who claim the food isn’t flavorful, I suggest they reconsider their taste buds—maybe stop smoking, because this restaurant is a flavor powerhouse.
In summary, this place is a true culinary gem. The food is incredible, the staff are outstanding, and the overall experience is one we look forward to every time. If you're looking for a dining experience that's about savoring flavors and enjoying impeccable service, this is the place to be....
Read moreI went here for a birthday and I didnt know what I was getting into. I really like where their aiming, but the execution was just shy of what I wanted it all to be. That being said, there are still many good things to say. PRICE. yes lets get this out of the way, you're paying for a fine-eats experience with "local" at its core, which i think they did a great job sticking to. It's up there but not unreasonable for the local factor, with the highest priced item being a $55 goose that was cured for 35 days. Everything else sat between $20 and $35. FOOD. Like I said, all local and big portions on everything, but it wasnt very flavorful. I think the pork chops could have had more salt, the radicchio had too much vinegar, and the goose needed to be cooked a bit longer. Plus all the meat needed more seasoning. They nailed the sweet potatoes and sausage though. I love the ideas here but I think the flavors need to be honed in or boosted in some situations. SERVICE was a mixed bag, some of the staff, including our waitress and the hostess seemed nervous on a busy Friday night, which our table could feel. Meanwhile, nearby servers, including the busser, were obviously competent and fun to watch. It seemed like many skilled professionals were working along with a few folks that were newer. This is nice to see, even though it was a little annoying that we were asked about our food and drinks 3 times throughout the meal. Once is enough. LOCATION is amazing! Right on Alki making it convenient for a post-meal walk. We were there after dark but I'm sure it is beautiful during the day. ATMOSPHERE was tasteful with nice colors, not overcrowded or cramped, and the lighting was warm without being too bright or dark. I liked the vibe but wished there was a little more decor.
If you want local food, sizeable portions, and a spot located on Alki. Then I recommend the Driftwood. There arent many...
