Don't come after 630pm as they will be out of nearly everything. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not as it's all frozen seafood with their advertisement of completely fresh. Total lie. Then you get to experience two older gentlemen who cannot explain why they have Prawns, Oysters and Halibut, but cannot serve you a combination of the 3 as listed on the menu. "Hi, I'd like to get the Halibut combination". The answer was no. "Ok great, can I have the salmon please?" The answer was no. " Ok, can you please just tell me what you DO have?" Answer, " is this your first time here?" Response, " Ok awesome, thanks for nothing".
The fries looked pre-soaked in oil, very slimy and soggy before they fried them. Don't confuse that with a traditional method of twice frying fries to get them extra crispy. These were a zero seasoned soggy mess of fries that were simmering in the same oil the rest of their food was frying in, so if you have shellfish allergies you should definitely stay away. The more expensive option of "fresh" halibut was just as underwhelming with zero seasoning and a soggy breading. The only saving grace to consume the food was to drown everything in tartar sauce (which I will admit was quiet tasty).
Save yourself the headache and overpriced super subpar food and go to Spud Fish and Chips a block away. They always deliver an exceptional experience...
Read moreSunfish is a consistent reminder that looking for those old spots around town can still pay off.
I've been enjoying stopping by here for about 10 years. This is a small family run restaurant and it shows. You'll notice the staff does not change. đ
This falls in the same category as Spud and Ivar's, but is a tear above in my opinion. The fish is hand cut in house and fried to perfection. I grew up on Ivar's and while I'll still eat it, it does not hold a candle to Sunfish. While Spud is nice, it's not Sunfish.
If you like big and yummy calamari give it a shot. Their chowder is good, rich, and once in awhile I do get a little sand. I don't mind if it tastes like chowder I'd take the time to make at home, and it does not disappoint.
The oil is clean and I've never had anything over/under done. The chips, if not prepared in house, are from an excellent supplier. Although they are not salted or only very lightly and I always grab a salt packet to give th a bit more seasoning.
Give Sunfish a shot. If you're looking for fried gold I think it'll hit the spot. These kinds of places do not last forever so get in there sooner...
Read moreAbsolutely incredible experience! Like most people, I read reviews before going places and I saw someone talk about soggy fries and rude service, and we took a chance and decided quality fish was more important. I have to tell you, not only were the fries perfect and thick and gorgeous (as I show in my photos), but the two men who I assume own the restaurant were so kind and friendly! We chatted a bit with him when it died down and enjoyed our dinner watching the sunset. The fish was crisp on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside, really beautiful. We all loved the coleslaw too, it was flavorful and not wet like some coleslaws weâve had. And oh my goodness, you need to get the chowder! I am from New England and I have to tell you, this is as close as you can get to the real thing around here. Wow! Also, sustainable practices are really important to us and we were so grateful to see them using compostable bowls, spoons and serving dishes! Especially being so close to the water, and on Earth in general, we really appreciate your proactive decisions!
Thank you so much for a great experience! We canât wait...
