AVOID THIS PLACE: IF I COULD GIVE NEGATIVE STARS, I WOULD. I decided on some Thai food after work last Sunday - so, I figured on giving this restaurant a try.
I liked the atmosphere, and saw that people were socially distanced - so, I figured that I was going to enjoy my meal (their Chicken Lime Light). Unfortunately, my food was being served to me by someone who wore their mask down over their nose. He also thought nothing of talking to me with his mask down.
Because I have immuno-compromised persons in my life, I requested a replacement. While I try to avoid covid deniers, and people who don't take the disease seriously on the streets, I think that restaurant staff should be taking covid (and its safety measures) seriously, when serving food and drink to their customers - who should be able to dine in a safe environment. Considering that there was a statewide requirement for indoor establishments (like restaurants) to follow safety guidelines, I explained to the bartender that while I didn't want to get anyone in trouble - I imagine that I would be within my rights to report them. At no time was I rude or loud with the staff.
I then noticed that my drink had a weird consistency (shown below). When I brought it up to the bartender to request a replacement, I was told that she thought that it was alright, and that I should just continue drinking it (gag) - at no point did she acknowledge my request, nor was a replacement offered.
Once I realized that this was going to be my experience for the remainder of my time there, I paid up, and left my food uneaten: given the lackadaisical service -- and the fact that the "remade" food came out less than 5 minutes after requesting a replacement, when it took the original order about 12-15 minutes I wouldn't put it past them to serve me the same food after putting it under a heat lamp, and state that it was "remade."
Before I left, I thought to take pictures of my ordered items (as I didn't think that people would believe my experience with this place). When the bartender realized what I was doing, she rushed to my table, and attempted to take the items out of my hands - while I was still taking pictures (which was funny to me: instead of trying to fix things, she opted, instead, to remove evidence of what happened). This forced me to tell her to release me, and the items, as I purchased them, and wasn't finished.
I tried to speak to a manager, to discuss my experience. However, during my initial visit - or the subsequent time afterwards, I was told that the manager wasn't available - they didn't know when they would be available, and was offered to leave my number. Unsurprisingly, at no time did I receive a call from said manager.
So, I'm posting about my experience now. I will also be posting about this experience on as many other sites as I can think of.
Overall, my experience there with the food, service, and attitude from the ride and inattentive staff was rather horrible. I recommend that people avoid this place...
Read more8/6/23 I have to update my review of this restaurant. Bang Bar, as you can see by my previous review, used to be my all-time favorite restaurant. I used to go there all the time taking every new date there and my current husband would drive all the way from Edmonds to there just to enjoy my favorite restaurant. However, this Friday, August 4th, I was so disappointed. I asked for the chili sauce on my cashew crispy chicken dish to be excluded from the dish (my guts cannot tolerate hot/spicy food). They offered it on the side and I agreed thinking it would be the sweet chili sauce. When it arrived to my table, the sauce on the side was probably about 10 oz of sauce in a soup bowl. The vegetables were warm but not cooked at all. The crispy chicken was very chewy, much like pieces of rubber. I tried to eat it but I couldn't. I sent it back and they offered to comp me the dish. Additionally, the wait staff was continually at our table side reaching their arms across the table to pull off empty dishes. This is something that they would never have done in previous visits before the pandemic. It meant that my conversation with my husband was constantly interrupted by the wait staff. The final blow came with the bill for two appetizers and one entree. It was $60 without the tip. I ordered the coconut shrimp like I always do and my husband ordered fried spring rolls. He received four small spring rolls. I received five decently cooked coconut shrimp. He ordered the garlic fried rice. When we brought the remains of his fried rice home which he didn't really like because it was not spicy as he requested medium, I found that there was very little chicken in it, a few tiny bits of egg and nothing else. I spoke to the person that I perceive was a manager and asked him if ownership had changed since the pandemic. He said no. I expressed my disappointment and described each point that contributed to my experience. He thanked me for informing him, which is what I wanted to do, just inform him so that he can address it for his clients and improve the experience for others. Unfortunately, my husband and I both agreed as we walked out the door that we would not return to Bang Bar again.
THE best Thai restaurant in the entire Seattle area. Intimate seating, exotic decor, solicitous wait staff, amazing service, and every item on the menu is delicious. My favorite items: fried chicken wings (appetizer) crispy prawns with noodles, fresh muddled lemonade which they will gladly add vodka to. When I lived in West Seattle I took all my...
Read moreHadn't been here before, so I decided to give it a try after an appointment. It was really empty for being around dinnertime. I thought maybe it was due to the incoming windstorm and people were heading straight home. I should've too and saved $35+. After my food experience I'm thinking this may be part of the reason for the lack of customers. I ordered hot hibiscus tea, crispy garlic chicken, brown rice and spring rolls. The tea was ok, hot to the extreme but after adding ice to cool down it was ok. I've had better hibicus tea but it was ok for a bagged tea. The rice was dark brown and different from any brown rice I'd had before but was good. The rolls were typically decent. They generally taste the same around the Seattle area so I didn't have expectations one way or the other. The crispy (?) garlic (?) chicken was not good at all. Not crispy. Any garlic that was supposedly in the dish was overshadowed by the salt. The crispy basil tasted like crispy seaweed. I don't like seaweed at all, so this made the experience worse. Visually, it looked good. My daughter was meeting me so I gave the food to her. I'd forgotten she doesn't care for bangbar either but said she'd try the chicken to see how it compares to a good Thai restaurant down the hill. I told her absolutely no comparison. My grandson cooks for a West Seattle restaurant so she planned to ask him if there was anything he could do to fix the saltiness. I haven't heard how that turned out. The restaurant itself is comfortable with just the right lighting. Quiet, but was that due to weather. The service was decent. There were three diners in total so I'd expect it to be. I don't usually give a yes or no recommendation when it comes to restaurants as tastes are so variable. Some can pile on salt, some people prefer not to. I'm just glad I tried this place on a slow night. I would think if you're not hurried to get orders out the quality would be good. Dishes should be consistent busy or slow but if you have more time, in my opinion, it would seem you'd make sure the dish is good. Happy eating wherever you...
