Update Feb 2023:
Come back on early February and was surprised when I got the bill that the cost of the lunch buffet has been increased to $21.95. With the tax and a small tip it came to $27. The new cost was not updated to their website at the time. The food is still good; they added vegetables biryani to replace the hot grilled veggies they used to have. I know that things are expensive now, but this is not affordable for a single person, let alone to bring a whole family in. The service was very limited as the only thing they did was to take me to my seat and filled my glass with water; none of the used plates were removed. One less option in my book from now on.
Original review:
Went back to Chutney for lunch buffet the first time since the pandemic. Still good varieties, clean, and full trays of different food selections. For $16.99 you can stuffed yourself with quality Indian cuisine. Still not a bad deal.
The Daal lentil was surprisingly tasty. For buffet, they offered four types of curries including a meatball tikka masala, a vegetarian korma and a soupy kind, which was very flavorful as well. Indian roasted vegetables, Tandoori chicken legs, and different kinds of chutneys are long term staples. Cheesy fried potato is very tasty but filling. Pre-pandemic they offered individual bite size cakes as desserts. Now they offer three different kinds of desserts, including rice pudding, mango mousse, and Gulab Jamun, which is a kind of deep fried cheese ball. The first two desserts are super yummy, the last one is...
Read moreThe atmosphere looked very nice and welcoming which is why we are excited to try this place, however, the service and the food was far from nice and welcoming. we ordered biryani and when the food came it didnt look anything like what biryani should look like. the rice looked undercooked and it looked like rice and curry was hastily thrown together. when we brought this up to our server he started arguing with us, asking us why we ordered something we werent going to eat. he tried to tell us that the biryani was supposed to look like that. we have been cooking and eating biryani all our lives, we know what biryani should look like. the server was extremely rude with us and was very hesitant to take the food back. we have never experienced such a rude server in our lives. the veg momo was very under spiced and dry, and rather then mo:mo it was veg samosa in momo shape. We know what fired momo is . That is what we have been eating since childhood. the paneer was rock hard and extremely hard to eat. Either it was fried for too long or we were served old food by frying it again. We just could not tell . the over all dining experience was very bad. the owner did come up to us to apologise for the server and didn't have us pay. i recommend that the servers get proper training and learn basic...
Read moreWhen you go in - it's nice, and the waitstaff are great. You're excited about the organic menu, but the fried garbanzo cracker they serve with chutney is burnt... Your garlic basil naan tastes reminiscent of the spices it's labeled to have, but it's also burnt some. Your organic dishes, requested to be 3 stars, come back bland, NO SPICE!!! Your basmati rice is under cooked and crunchy in some bites.
This was my first time here. I was very disappointed. I came on Nov 19th, around 7:30pm. The place was not busy, so there isn't any kind of excuse for poorly made food. The waitress did not write our order down, and I feel that contributed to the mix-up about spices.
I will not go again unless someone else goes - and pays. Which thankfully my date did. 51.00 was not worth the food, if you base price on quality. I'd rather have paid them 30.00 or even less for this.
"It used to be good, that's a shame." Said my boyfriend who had been there a few years ago or so.
I would go to Cedar's, Shalimar, or Bengal Tiger instead, Saffron Grill is...
