on 4/29 I called in to book a 4pm reservation for a party of 7 on May 7th, 2024. The first call was to book, then remembering some of the party would only be able to get to the restaurant around 530, as those would be driving down from BELLINGHAM, 2 hrs away from West Seattle. I then made a second call to the restaurant to ensure we didn't have to be seated as an entire party, and to be reassured it wouldn't be an issue for them to come at that time. Whoever took the call reassured me it would not be an issue. The day comes and we are having a great time eating and drinking. At 6pm, the host (she's tall, short hair, glasses) comes over to let us know our table (big family style table) was booked and we needed to leave. Confused, I mentioned that I had called and spoke to someone to book, reassured we had ample time at the table, she wasn't aware of such conversation as there was no note on our booking. She walked away, and 3 minutes later she comes back to question my method of booking, stating it was on resy. At this point I'm very annoyed, and I had mentioned that on resy's booking platform for this restaurant, it states parties of 7+ need to call or email the restaurant to book, which I did. I asked if she needed to see the interface of the app as it seemed she was not aware of their own booking platform mobilities. She offered to move us to a different table, which is extremely inconvenient as we had food, and 4 bottles of wine, and its 7 people you're moving with all their cups, plates etc. instead of seating the other party at the available table. She was not nice about the situation, and made us feel like an extreme burden for being there.. No apologies, no empathy. Our bill was $600+ even with the comp'd bottle of 1/2 off wine. I expect so much better from this establishment. Especially because I do not live in Seattle, I am visiting from New York, however was born and raised in West Seattle, and was celebrating my engagement during our dinner with my closest friends, who I see once a year.. My fiancé and I really enjoyed Harry's Beach House prior to this day, and unfortunately I don't think this will be an option for dining moving forward due to this experience. It was in poor taste to question how we booked the reservation, and our discussion with who ever booked it for me. To end the experience, the questioning put a bad taste in our mouths, and instead of taking the offer of moving tables, which again was extremely inconvenient, we didn't want to stay. Our friend who got there late, had to box the food she had just ordered, to-go, and ate it standing on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. Harry's is not a cheap place to host a 7 person dinner, and to eat your food outside, not a good look. Personally, I feel like more should have been done than a comp'd bottle of 1/2 off wine. If you have a larger group, I don't recommend booking here. You won't have enough time to visit and enjoy your...
Read moreI’m giving nice review because my friend had a good meal, the whole chicken. Good basic food and generous portion but on my side I had a saucer full(cup) of clam chowder that that was more like some cream of clam chowder with cheese and some crunchy(?) onions..it like a homemade soup but too rich and wasn’t real chowder at all.. ok my mistake.. spuds is next door! I ordered scallops as an entree and when it came out it was THREE golf ball sized scallops, a single brussel sprout and what looked and tasted like a small raw potato. Both of our entrees were over $40. My 3 scallops were undercooked and chewy. The cook basically served them seared and raw on other side. The oils in the meat never broke down and it was more like weird scallop sushi, partly cooked.. I love and crave a good scallop, these were nasty and undercooked. You can’t UNDERCOOK SEAFOOD! Thinking of what was going through my mind when I was chewing away and crunching on sand is actually a bit horrifying now..lol. (Did someone cook these on their car hood…in the rain..?) I can still get 15 pieces of good sushi for $40 in this city, so this was a mistake. I felt it was a big ripoff. There was nothing else with it, no rice nothing. To put this in perspective the whole chicken on the platter is probably 3 pounds of food..the scallop dish is 3 oz of food..for the same price.. I know for sure I can get enough seafood for $40 to still fill my gut in this city of weirdos.. I ate some of the chicken and it was good but they cut it in half to hurry cooking so breast was dried out.. it wasn’t slow cooked and as savory like Costcos when fresh.. again lacking umami. Spuds has a nicer dining room as we were outside in a covered area and it was a bit cold. The crème brûlée didn’t seem to have much flavor or substance like flan..it was like custard pudding. And only drip coffee that was not...
Read moreI went to Harry's Beach House with my parents and boyfriend. My parents arrived in time for our reservation and ordered drinks and appetizers but my boyfriend and I did arrive late. Our server poked fun at us in a good natured way, but somewhat berating ("people that are late don't get drinks"). We ordered "mocktails" and both of us stated that we "are not drinking" right now, having both been sober for 3 months. We asked him to bring us any kind of drink he wanted, I mentioned even ginger beer alone was okay. When he brought the drinks they were small and delicious, and it was halfway through them when we realized there was actually alcohol in them! We asked and he confirmed, quickly apologizing and replacing the drinks. At the end of the night, he left both cocktails at full price on the bill (only removed them once requested). He stated he was the owner. I think this is horrendously inappropriate in many ways. We laughed it off in shock at the time but I do not feel he took this seriously at all, breaking our sobriety (what if we had been recovering alcoholics or under legal requirement to stay sober?). There was nothing that could be done from our end but to be as nice as possible, but he royally forked up and couldn't have even been bothered to take it off bill. The edible portion of the pork was delicious, unfortunately it was so incredibly fatty that I could only get down a handful of bites....
