My entire family has been coming here for ~ 15 yrs, (as far as I can remember - might be longer?). Mom is a first generation Japanese immigrant, and we kids all lived in Japan, returning for visits as frequently as we can. Mom has had a standing weekly reservation for years!! It is our favorite sushi place by far, and one we will all continue to frequent as long as we can. Why? ALWAYS, always fresh fish, much of it sourced straight from Japan. A varied daily fresh sheet with many choices and presentations of fish/seafood. One of mom's favorites? The fresh, tender oysters. Great staff! Owner, Kyu-san, clearly takes enormous pride in all of the food served here. He is also very creative, and comes up with the most unique items, in addition to the traditional sushi you already know and love. Setsuko, the Manager, there for years, will remedy anything you find wanting, (so you may never meet her!), with speed, and a smile. From hosts/hostesses, to kitchen cooks, to servers, and,of course, sushi chefs!, their aim is, clearly, to please. EVERYONE is committed to making sure you have a delicious, beautifully presented meal. Cold foods are cold, hot foods hot - definitely not the case everywhere. Amazing lunch bentos at an equally amazing low price. Pretty sure they don't make any money on these, but your return is virtually guaranteed after you've tried just one! Enticing assortment of apps, salads, entrees, and side dishes. Authentic dishes - not the sometimes "just plan weird" concoctions found at some sushi venues, though never lacking in imagination. More limited meat choices, but plenty of variety for everyone to find something to delight! Chicken teriyaki, w/traditional sauce (yum!), and sizzling, tender Korean beef, are mouth-watering selections. Amazing and unexpected desserts! Desserts are all made in-house, or from a Japanese bakery, including my favorite: panna cotta - wait, what? At a sushi place?. Served w/"secret recipe" (they won't even give it to us!) apricot sauce, and finished w/strawberries and a fresh mint leaf, it rivals any I've had from Italian restaurants (so far). The Fuji apple cheesecake, w/maple syrup and fresh whipped cream, the fresh sorbets, the traditional coffee "jello" w/cream and whipped cream, etc, are waiting for you. The portions (and prices) are just right, so there's always room to try one! Delicious, varied sake, wine and beer selections, in a range of prices, so everyone can enjoy. Clearly I could go on, but the best way to see if this is a fair review, is to go experience it for yourself. But please leave room for us at...
Read moreAs a regular customer, I was excited to visit Kisaku Sushi for lunch today. Unfortunately, it was an incredibly disappointing experience as the way I was treated during this visit left me feeling frustrated and disheartened.
The issue arose after I swapped two pieces of regular nigiri for chutoro (with substitutions being normal, and the price difference being an upcharge). Though an à la carte order of chutoro nigiri was priced at $12 for two pieces, I was told that my substitution would cost me an additional $14. It's confusing why they tried to charge me more.
What made matters even worse was the server's attitude. When I politely pointed out the pricing error, he inexplicably grew flustered and became passive-aggressive, accused me of giving him a hard time, then stormed off in an irrational rampage. Not only did this feel incredibly unprofessional, it also created an uncomfortable and unnecessary scene within the restaurant.
As a loyal customer, I expected better treatment and a more reasonable approach to addressing such a simple request, especially when the restaurant made a mistake and I was kind about it. This experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth, primarily because of the unprofessional behavior displayed by the server. Additionally, the owner, who was nearby and could clearly hear the commotion, did not intervene or attempt to resolve the situation. This lack of management and customer care further emphasized the poor treatment I endured. I am extremely disappointed and will not be visiting Kisaku Sushi again, nor would I recommend...
Read moreI was really looking forward to trying this restaurant. The reviews looked great and it was close by. My family and I had come to Seattle to visit my brother. There are so many sushi restaurants and being from New Mexico I am so excited to try it all.
Unfortunately we did not get the chance. As soon as we walked in, the woman seemed to be annoyed. I said hello, and that I needed a table of 5: 3 adults and 2 high chairs. She rolled her eyes and asked, “do you have a reservation” “No, I’m sorry, we don’t. Is this a reservation only restaurant?” “ugh, no, but let me check” When she came back she told us we could eat there, but it was going to be a while a LONG while. And we could order “a la cart” if we sat near the bar. We weren’t even given a wait time.
But it felt like she just really wanted us to leave. I don’t know what was going on, but there seemed to be plenty of tables. They may have been short staffed, but there was no mention or explanation. There are so many wonderful places in the area, so we just left and ate sushi at another place in the neighborhood.
My kids are small, but we go out to eat all the time. I don’t know if it was a misunderstanding or what, but we felt incredibly unwelcome. I was on yelp and the website and I never saw mention of “reservations required” or “no children allowed”
Again, I don’t know what was going on, but when I left I kept thinking, “are we dressed weird??” “Do they dislike children?” “did we do something??” I have never experienced that before, and it was really...
