Mean Sandwich — Restaurant in Seattle

We went there for the first time today and was super impressed by everything! My hubs got the Mean and I got the Hama Oyster. Both were absolutely perfect! The corned beef was super tender and the oysters tasted really fresh! We really like the potato skins. They were fried to perfection - I loooove a super crispy fry and every single one was perfectly crisp. I also really liked the mustard! The service was great - everyone was super nice and you just get the sense that they genuinely care about their customers. The whole transaction from beginning to end was super smooth. We ordered online, walked up to the front door, told them my name, waited a few minutes, and they brought out our food piping hot! I was EXTREMELY impressed by the covid-safety-measures they put in place. Their front door is locked and behind glass. You walk up to order and they have an electronic microphone/speaker thing like you'd see at a drive thru bank. So you're never talking to someone face to face without a barrier. If you order in person, they slide a big mailbox-like thing out of the door to give you the card reader (also kinda like a drive thru bank). They have really great covid-safe eating areas in the back. There's picnic tables all separated by tents. This was literally the FIRST time I felt safe enough (since 14 months ago when covid started) to actually eat out at a restaurant. I seriously don't get the comment someone wrote about how their process is "awkward." How is it fair to give them less stars because they've put in procedures to keep YOU safe?? It's to keep you and everyone else safe, so they can still operate their business during these trying times! Operating businesses = employees with jobs! And anyway, I don't feel like their system is awkward at all. It's very efficient and super effective at keeping everyone distanced while having the least amount of contact. Well done, Mean Sandwich! hot damn this place is amazing, I can't conjure into words how good some of their food is as it has been a journey.

My go-to these days is the NJ style Italian Hoagie with fully loaded fries. The fries are just heavenly with the green onions, the white sauce and the bacon bits, and the flavor of the hoagie reminds me of the east coast where I am from plus the bread is crispy, fresh and awesome. No one can mimic a NJ style hoagie but Mean does an amazing job with their original take on it and I love it. I've tried other Italian hoagies in the hood here and Mean does it the best. Also, keep an eye out for their specials on the online menu! Those are always interesting and yummy.

I tried their fried chicken po-boy sandwich once and didn't love it, but to each their own. The DAM smashburger is really good albeit mustard-y but I do love mustard, so if you don't like mustard then beware that is one of the main toppings of the DAM burger. I highly reccomend Mean Sandwich! If you try something and don't like it, then don't let that deter you from returning as all of their food dishes are unique from each other. You may love one thing and not another.

Their service is top notch, the people who work there are always super friendly and it is an inviting atmosphere, and you can even play Ms. Pac-Man. Order online ahead of time if you can that way you don't have to...

I LOVE this place. I just sat down and haven’t even eaten yet but it’s my new favorite. The owner is SO nice and was very very helpful. Very considerate about allergies and adjustments to give us the best experience possible. The vibes are awesome- free stickers, the viewfinder menu was so fun! Highly recommend. I’ll update when I get my food.

Edit: Food was AMAZING and the owner continued to wow us with his care and obvious passion for this business. Love.

Edit several months later: Came again and it’s STILL AMAZING. Friendly service and fire food. I ordered a cola and the cashier suggested a lemonade by the same company so I took it instead and he said if I didn’t like it he’d get me the other one instead! So kind and good at their job.

Edit 11/11/24: Are you kidding me? Had the WTK! Chicken Po Boy and it is my new favorite. Perfectly crispy bread, crunchy chicken, bursting with flavor. Spicy Remoulade was delightful. Casey remembered me and I will be returning, don’t you worry. Keep following for updates.

Edit 2/10/25: Still delicious. Dan is so friendly and really cares about his guests! It’s the kind of place you go on a bad day to feel better. I’m slowly taking all of my friends here…

Edit 5/10/25: took my family here. Ordered everything, they even sent us some Buffalo style fries on top of it all! Attentive and kind staff....
