We came on a Monday evening and had miso and chirashi. The food was quite good. I thought the snow crab, the mackerel, and the sea bass were highlights of the bowl. Their tamago is on the sweeter side, so I’d definitely recommend eating it last if that’s not already your default. The service was, unfortunately, very very spotty. Both of the waitstaff seemed really eager to please and had great attitudes and smiles but simply lacked the experience to effectively wait on even 1 table each. It took 3-5 minutes to get their attention. They gave answers along the lines of “I don’t know” and “I’m not sure” without offering to find out. When we asked if it might be possible to ask if the chef would include a particular fish, the server looked very uncomfortable and said “maybe but I’m not sure, I don’t know, maybe I could ask, I don’t know” which dissuaded us from even bothering to make the request. When the chirashi came, nobody explained what fish we had been given, and when we finally got their attention again to come over, they weren’t sure about what fish we’d been given. The nearby tables got similar service. I watched as one table did not receive the right food. Another didn’t get menus for 5 minutes after being seated. And I watched another table try to flag down a server with no luck as well. I chalked all of this down to inexperience rather than a lack of desire to do a good job, and I think they’ll be much more practiced when we come back much later.

I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The service is amazing. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu, which was extremely appreciated. We ordered the salmon dinner, seared salmon belly nigiri, sunrise salmon roll and miso soup. The salmon dinner is an amazing value. The rolls are generously sized and you get a decent amount of fish on each piece of nigiri! My husband was so happy with the quality of the fish. The seared salmon belly was probably the best piece of sushi I have ever had. It’s smoky and literally melts in your mouth. You need to try this if you visit! The sunrise salmon roll was HUGE. They load it with the crab salad, avocado and seared salmon on top. It was so tasty! Sushi Taiyo is conveniently located on Stone Way. It is on the smaller side, but it feels cozy on the inside. It is pretty casual and we felt very welcomed & comfortable. This is probably the best sushi you will have in Seattle and it is 100% worth the visit. We are already talking about our next visit here. So excited that we have amazing sushi nearby!

Not usually the type to write long reviews, but I seriously can’t help it with this one. I haven’t had sushi this fresh and high quality in a while. With the price and the cuts, Sushi Taiyo completely blew our expectations. Service was great—super friendly servers and hosts. We had the salmon dinner, temaki roll, and chirashi, and every single thing was REALLY, REALLY good. You can tell they take special care to make sure the quality is top-notch, and honestly, you can feel Chef Qi San’s passion in every bite. Price is very reasonable, especially knowing they’re still in their soft opening phase. Only tiny thing—we felt the miso soup could’ve been a bit warmer, and the seaweed cut was a little too thick (I ordered it for my little one). But even that didn’t take away from how good everything was. Honestly, just come here. Don’t overthink it. I’m already planning to come back and try the rest of the menu.
