in folklore, a troll is a supernatural creature either very big - a giant (or very small, like a dwarf), not very nice and also ugly! i do not know what will be your reaction when you first see the Fremont Troll sculpture, i find this 18 foot high beast squatting under the Aurona bridge has a benevolent look and lovable! Well actually it is a piece of art or construction by 4 local artists working together to build up this iconic image of Fremont. It was made from concrete, reinforced with steel bar or rebar, and therefore can stand normal wear and tear with passage of time. It was first constructed in 1990. It is even hailed as one of the top ten public sculpture in the world. Now a little challenge to those who visited and took photo with this lovely giant or colossus, do you ever notice there is a Volkswagon Beetle in its grasp?

Very interesting to see. If you didn't hear about this Troll, you'd never know it was there. A woman at our hotel in Portland told us about this Troll, so we thought we'd check it out. It was very easy to find. When we arrived, there were only a couple of people standing around taking pictures. Literally within minutes, a large crowd of people came out of nowhere. We really didn't have much of an opportunity to get photos in front of the Troll, because the swarm of people started to climb on it before we were able to stand near it. I was lucky enough to grab one photo of the Troll by itself though. I thought it was very clever to put this sculpture here.
