This... Is an interesting rollercoaster of events.
Overall it's 5 star customer service and I will definitely stay with them again given opportunity, but what a story to tell. Bear with me.
I was supposed to be checked in for 4 nights on 26th of May. I did not. No SMS/email on the check-in instructions was received as I'm supposed to
Btw if you didn't receive the instructions 24 hours before the check-in, contact the hostel at absolutely the earliest. You will be fine if you do that - the hostel will help you resolve the issue. But do it early.
Don't end up in a situation like me.
This hostel doesn't have a front desk. You'd need to check in yourself.
Without instructions there's nothing I can do.
Trying to contact the hotel for 4+ hours after landing in Seattle, to no avail (it's memorial day at 10pm, but still). Left me out code at 1am. Great.
Had to find somewhere else to sleep, almost ended up in the chair for the night after 17 hours of combined flights.
Contacted the hostel that i am going to cancel the rest of the bookings. I don't care that if they count me as no show.
They got back to me the next day, promised a full refund, and even wanted to go out of their way to reimburse the cost of me finding alternative location. Well, great! Legendary customer service and owner!
Things could have needed here and I will be a happy man - but the ups and downs just keeps rolling.
They did attempt to reimburse me once - good on them - albeit my Venmo had some issues so it didn't go through. Okay that's on me, and I fixed my Venmo day later.
Guess what! It all went silent from there. For a week and half. The reimbursement never came, and they denied the refund request (according to Expedia)
What's even more funny is that I've booked a refundable room. Worse case scenario that's a no show, which would result in a no show fee only, but it appears that everything was denied.
It's not even about the money. I can take the lose, no issue. Financial it's not a big deal to me. but this entire experience is just hilarious. Ive always wants to try out hostel a bit and this is what I get?
But, luckily things bounced back from that point.
Contacted Expedia and hostel again, and a full refund was issued. Not too sure if the previous fluke was on the hostel or Expedia. But I digress.
The owner also clarify that the reason that no response was provided was because they were waiting for the check to arrive at the hotel before contracting me. Fair enough, but really an email would be very helpful here...
After a phone call which I've stated that I don't they need reimbursement, the owner insisted that this is to make up for their end of the failure.
Clearly the owner cares about customer and their business. I really hope that all people are like him. Not many people can own up mistakes like them.
Overall, highly recommended, you are in good hand. Maybe some improvement can be done on the commutation end but overall, great.
Though I still find this entire event just kinda hilarious, but its an interesting and overall good experience, so not too much complaints...
Read moreThis is a clean, quiet, semi-upscale hostel (as far as such a thing can be), with a fantastic location in the Fremont neighborhood, a block away from all the action, but a little on the spendy side. And by a little, I mean a lot.
I booked a private room, as my wife and I were travelling with our toddler son, and didn't want him to potentially disturb other guests. When looking for accommodations in Seattle a month prior, for some reason, every hotel in the city with an available room was exorbitantly overpriced, and picking a hostel seemed like the only affordable option. Unfortunately, even a meager private room here set us back $200, once all taxes and fees were added, which is bananas, if you ask me, and one of the only reasons I am deducting a star from this review.
The other reason is because, during the entirety of our stay, we saw zero staff on site. No one. Nobody. Nada. Our "check-in", if you can call it that, was via a text message that informed us which room was ours and when it would be ready, as well as the code for the front door and the code for our room: no swipe cards necessary, which was nice. I'm sure I could have texted if we had any questions or concerns during our stay (which we didn't), but the lack of a human presence was a little on the unusual side. Similarly, we rarely heard, or saw, any of the other guests as well. It almost felt as if we had the entire place to ourselves.
All the bathrooms were clean and spacious, and someone...some unseen entity, was maintaining them, so we weren't truly alone. Our private room was small, with two twin beds, a sink and mirror, mini fridge, portable AC unit, a shelf and a couple stools, but it was all we needed, since we spent very little time in our room, other than to sleep. One last thing to mention would be that there is no ADA access whatsoever; just inside the entrance, there is a massive stairwell that is the only passage to the rooms, so far as I could see. I guess that's not really an issue though, as most backpackers and hostellers wouldn't need such a thing, but I feel it should still be mentioned.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely. Hotel Hotel is clean, safe, and located in a fantastic neighborhood. However, I would definitely be a lot more particular about securing a better price on a future visit, by planning further ahead instead of scrambling for a room at near the last minute: the beast of spontaneity always bites the wallet the hardest. However, for budget travelers looking for a cheap-ish bed to bunk down in a shared dorm, you're not likely to find a better place anywhere...
Read moreOkay. This is gonna be a long one but ill try to stick to the facts. We made our reservations a couple months in advance, we were going to make the trip from vancouver to seattle and stay at Hotel Hotel. Problem #1: the conversion of CAD to USD had us very confused because we thought we were paying $400 but we ended up paying $600 for the booking for 4 nights. Ouch. This qas our fault though because we totally forgot to budget for the exchange rate which is just a rookie travelling mistake. Our room was the private ensuite, and we were not only pleasantly surprised by the interior in the main entrance of the hostel but were very happy with our room. The decor is really nice and simple but still stylish and it has lots of windows facing out into the street. The bathroom is sort of strangely broken up into different rooms but its not terrible. The bed is super comfy, very large (i think its a king). You dont need to bring sheets but there is no maid service so they wont get cleaned during your stay. There is free breakfast from 7am to 10 am that consists of toast, peanut butter, corn flakes, raisin bran, orange and banana slices, and coffee. The room comes witha hair dryer but u need to bring your own shower supplies (you can take a trip to Walgreens if you have to). The main issue was this: the garbage trucks. 3 mornings in a row at 6 am a huge garbage truck would rattle down the alley DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH the windows behind the bed and it woke us up every morning. It was so noisy. I was baffled that the garbage truck came three mornings in a row because im used to the garbage truck only comingonce a week. It was a tragedy. Really the worst part about the room was that. Also, the wifi in the room is iffy and theres no tv except for in the common kitchen. The neighbourhood of Fremont is beautiful and theres lots to do just in the close vicinity of the hostel itself which is a plus. All in all, a very decent place to stay but im not sure if it saved us much money if we had stayed in am actual hotel instead (which was the reason we chose a hostel in the first place). However, the hostel experience was nice a...
