If you don't look too hard, you'll see an ear in the photo. That would perhaps be more appetizing, as this yakisoba was all kinds of wrong. I know why they give so much sauce but why the sauce they chose? I don't know. It's very sweet. Too sweet, even for Seattle Teriyaki. I wanna sat the OG owner had a partner or something and they split ways, one starting a shop in West Seattle, around where the Taco Time is now, and they had the best Teriyaki. My grandmother used to hang around the shop often and she would be disappointed in this very westernized shop, right down to over grilling the chicken so it is super hard to get down. Between extra dry chicken and a heck of a lot of cabbage, a hint of broccoli and a sprinkle of sliced carrot, a good yakidoba...this is not. In fact, immediately after tasting the yakisoba I decided to order from a different teriyaki place, Asia Ginger Teriyaki and Grill...wow. loads difference! Go there instead. Or Buxx's Teriyaki. Anywhere else.

I celebrated 2,000,000 views on my reviews account by treating myself to none other than Toshi's Teriyaki. The lunch special is such a great deal, the chicken, its self, was full of umami flavoring and very moist. It also came with a few pretty good gyozas; something is missing, however. Perhaps it's dependent on textural preferences, but I would have liked to experience more crunch from them. One final note is that I was very impressed by their food safety practices. It's rare to see anyone wearing hairnets, gloves, and aprons these days, and I felt confident eating what I was served.

Tried their lunch special which is their signature chicken teriyaki, 3 gyoza, and their house salad for only $10.99. Their chicken and potstickers are made to order so it was super hot and fresh. The chicken is so moist inside and nicely charred outside, but what really made it was their signature sauce! I'll be back to try other items on their menu, which is quite a variety of things yet to try! Teriyaki beef, pork, katsu, udon, yakisoba... The list goes on! Best teriyaki I've had in Seattle so far!

The two working behind the counter this evening were absolutely wonderful! Their kindness is the biggest factor in a 4 star rating from me. The menu options online have a different price than what was on the menu in-house (maybe I was mistaken). I went in expecting to pay 18$ and ended up spending 32$, but I don't mind because the food was good and their service was fantastic. I do believe there was a misunderstanding between myself and the gentleman who took my order-- I asked for the 6 piece egg rolls and the 6 piece pot stickers, but received a combo of 2 egg rolls and 4 pot stickers. Totally fine because I paid for what we got, and I was unable to finish what I ordered anyway. There were 16 chairs that I could see, but there may have been seating in the back. The art/decor was cute and minimal, and everything...

Teriyaki isn't exactly gourmet, so I find that I either like it, or it's not good. What I mean by that is that there is no "amazing" teriyaki. Toshi's is in the "I like it" category. Another thing that I find to be the case with teriyaki is that a lot of places start with pretty poor quality ingredients, especially the meat. I guess the idea is that if you add enough sauce, it masks mediocre flavors and bad texture. The reason I keep going back to Toshi's is that they start with quality ingredients, the sauce is good, the rice is good, and the portions are big.

And to one of the other reviewers, if you think Toshi's is expensive, you probably don't care about the stuff above. I recommend "I heart Sushi", which is...
