Oh my goodness ... Brotherman & company are doing it! Not only did it smell phenomenal in here, the atmosphere was warm and cozy.
Brother man came from behind the curtain. Like the wizard of oz, and I immediately got excited. OK OK, okkkkklay , wait, let me back it up. I just lied to you all, I actually got excited when we pulled up. And I saw all the little black illustrations. Mix with the Asian flare, you know. It's always a good day when brown town sticks together!!!
Go back to the experience, Like I mentioned, he came from behind the curtain like the wizard of oz..
Let me pause for the cause and give a shot out to the INTENTIONALIST, (if ya know, ya know..it's an IG THANG) Because of Laura , get to re-discover my city in a BLACK&BROWN dope kinda way! It's crazy that I am actually from Seattle. But I feel like I take this to stranger in regards to how much it has changed, especially all of the gentrification 🫥🤯😌
I am so happy and please that for the month of February. The intentionalist Team is offering a BLACK history month pass, which includes ten stops that you can get special free goodies from...
Super dope that UMAMI KUSHI was on the list!
I'll be honest. I have seen this place a few times going to that corner store, But every single time it is closed,
once we drove up on it today, I instantly got excited and knew the full circle of how I felt before even coming to explore.
We selected the jerk chicken and curry beef options. Finally, I made it to the house and stuck them in the oven, flipping it over once .. And having the bright idea to take their chimmi-churi sauce and mix it with some spicy Mayo I got from a sushi place.
How did the lyrics go??? " I'm in heaven, simply heaven..." Yes, like that.
Safe to say. I am from Seattle, like I mentioned before. And I am most Def sleeping on this food. Additionally, if you haven't tried it, so are you!!
The flavor was phenomenal, the crunch was superb, it hit all the right taste buds , and it made me say DAMN WHY DIDN'T I BUT ANOTHER ONE??
And I'll leave you with this. They even have a tofu option. And I'll be the first to admit proudly. I am not again. I repeat for the people in the back. I'm not not a fan of tofu, but i'm excited to go back and actually select their tofu version as well.
This was just a great vibe of a place. It was warm and inviting. The illustrations are so fun that you wanna take the idea home in slap it on your own wall.
Brotherman was amazing!! All the way from his respect level, his hospitality. What he stands for is what he's doing. The knowledge he shared is energy and everything in between.
We will MOS DEF be back when we can!!
Appreciate you for sharing your love and passion in your food , right there off of...
Read moreOn our first trip (of probably many... many...), we tried:
Chicken Adobo BBQ Pork Salmon Beef Curry A dozen beignets
Absolutely everything we tried was spectacular. Not merely great. I'd go back for even just one of those. The beignets are fried to order and delightfully dusted with cinnamon powdered sugar (though they do also offer coconut sugar), and with possible exception to Toulouse Petit, are hands down the best you'll find in the Northwest, or probably anywhere outside of New Orleans.
The balance of flavor, smell, texture, and temperature were spot on, even after our short commute home.
I placed my order online from their website on Friday night, and I was able to pick them up any time on Sunday from 8a to 1p. When we arrived, there was one other patron waiting for their order, and they received it a short while later. The staff was all very friendly and were not rushing. It felt very deliberate and detail-oriented. The space was very clean, well lit and inviting, with all of the day's options neatly on display for any walk-in traffic with clear, legible signage.
I am beyond thrilled to have the gem that is Umami Kushi here in our Rainier Beach neighborhood, and I hope to be back...
Read moreTried Umami Kushi in Rainier Beach for the first time this morning and was blown away by their delicate and delicious meat pies. This charming bakery, with their upbeat and sweet team members, has raised the bar and may redefine excellent Japanese cuisine for you. Tuesdays feature half priced “pans” so we picked up a curry beef, one of the chicken options, salmon, and a lentil. All were scrumptious. It was hard to choose because the variety was almost overwhelming. Tucked away in the display case was their banana bread, so I asked for a slice. They drizzled it with a caramel sauce that transformed what is a mundane standard at most bakeries into a slice of heaven. There’s parking right in front of the door, plus indoor and outdoor seating to relax and enjoy the view of the marina across the street. Or, hike across the street to Beer-shiva park, that’s adjacent to our amazing Tilth Gardens to enjoy your delicious goodies. I’m already reaching out to friends to make future trips to...
