Note: we ordered takeout and this was during the pandemic, so I imagine food quality was lower to prevent wastage.
I'm not sure where to start. We ordered 3 dishes. Prices were okay ($14 for pork ribs, $10 for chicken, ~$11 for noodles) and serving sizes were decent. Inside was clean, but we only ordered to go.
Every dish we got had good parts and bad parts. Based on their menu and the food we got, this restaurant was probably catered more toward the typical American impression of Chinese food.
The pork ribs were stewed in a sweet sauce; some of the ribs were nice and juicy while others were fall-apart but dry. They were all too sweet. The bok choy that was included was bitter and ...hard? It's hard to describe, but something was definitely off about those.
The noodles were kind of bland, but perhaps the best dish among these. The mushroom taste was pretty prounounced, so if you like mushrooms, you might like these. But again, I thought they were kind of bland and nothing really special about them.
The chicken...the batter/crust was really thick and crunchy and salty, yet still managed to lack something. I think a thinner batter would have been better. But the chicken itself was...unacceptable. Something tasted off about these wings so I tasted the meat itself and it really does taste like the chicken was on the verge of rotting before they were cooked. The chicken was cooked through but you could tell it was slimy from going bad. I could not finish all of it, and no amount of batter and seasonings could mask the quality.
Overall, I am disappointed and probably would not come again. However, I rated it 2 stars because I am certain there are dishes that it excels at, I just don't know which. Additionally, I don't eat Chinese takeout of similar quality very often so it's difficult for me to say whether this is a typical experience. (Also, we got fortune cookies. Those...
Read moreIf you're looking for a laid back Chinese restaurant eating experience in Northwest, Seattle, then Yummy Café is a good choice. My Asian parents, which includes my very picky mother, actually enjoy coming here. They praise the food as authentic and well cooked. The dining room isn't big, but that means a quieter and nicer dining experience, almost like eating in someone's big living room. Afterwards, my parents enjoy walking across the street to do some extra shopping at Metro Market. Pretty convenient, if you do say so.
I saw some low reviews on Yelp for forgotten items in take-out orders. What, and you neve made an error? If you dine in, you can simply ask for anything forgotten, but my family has never had that happen.
As of the spring time 2021, in-door dining is back! Take a break from cooking or eating left overs and come in for a fully cooked Chinese restaurant menu.

BTW, they do free delivery in the area, although I can't comment on that since I...

Authentic Cantonese Cooking - Verified - By - Cantonese Family We are a Cantonese family from Fort Lee, New Jersey visiting the Yummy Café. All dishes are like the traditional Chinatown cuisines. I personally verified that this is a family owned restaurant (two brothers who immigrated from China) and the owners are from the same village in China like my parents. The business was established over ten years.
When we visit any restaurants, we look for freshness, taste and excellent service. Yummy Café exceeded our expectations.
