Decided to stop into another roaster and cafe as part of an ongoing search for the best (non-espresso) coffee experience. Unfortunately, this was the latest stop that offered nothing beyond their 'drip of the day', despite also having two pour-over options, which were light roast. Full disclosure, I recognize I'm an outlier, who wishes to enjoy any of the roaster's coffee. Still, when you're asking people to spend over $10 for 10 ounces of coffee, without trialing first, it makes for a poor experience. Again, just my thoughts.

Breakdown. *Food. As I did not purchase anything, including food, I cannot speak to the quality or enjoyment. I'm leaving that blank. -1. Customer Service. Barista lacked knowledge of origins for their medium roast. -1. Options. The only pour-over options were both light roast without the opportunity to trial anything else. Also, the barista did not take the initiative to offer (say) French press, aero, etc. +1. Accommodations. The location has plenty of seating and, I'm sure, is a relaxing spot for students and nearby tenants. No doubt, this is a welcome spot during the holiday shopping season. +1. Access. There was a lot of parking early morning. However, it's clear this area will fill up quickly. +1. Ambience. The vibe of the space is low volume background music, warm lighting, and an interior design akin to an old world pub.

Background Stopping in shortly after opening, I took a moment to take in the space, complete with a still upright Christmas tree. Walking up to the counter, I reviewed the options on the board, took noticed of two pour-over options, before inquiring about getting a pour over of their bold or medium roast. I was informed the only options were two light roast coffees, both as pour-over, or a medium roast drip. Inquiring about the drip, as to it's origin (e.g. South America, Central America, Africa, West Java, etc.) the barista only pointed to a small card, which outlined flavor profile. Asking again, I was directed to a countertop with bagged beans, only to see a vacancy where the beans I was discussing should have been. Recognizing no other options in trying Zoka's other coffees, I left. Overall, assuming I can find a grocer that has a return policy, I'll look into that option. However, unless someone from the cafe can assure me this was a one-off, I'll probably skip this roaster's cafe. Again, I'm an oddity, in that if I'm at a roaster, I would assume the coffee experience is more than what is offered at an affiliated, non-roaster cafe. As always, your individual...

I walked in about an hour before closing time and there was plenty of seating available. My first impression was that this seemed like a good place to work given the copious amount of outlets available. I was honestly surprised by how spaced out all the furnishings were. Their long, worn wooden tables and benches could easily fit six people per side. Since it was so warm outside I ordered an Iced Mocha and thought it was pretty solid. Next time I'll probably try the Honey Cardamom Latte or Aztec Mocha.

The only gripe I can think of is that WiFi is only free for the first hour. Whether or not this policy was set to generate extra income, disincentivize people from occupying tables all day, or something else entirely it definitely dissuaded me from staying very long this time. Maybe I'll come back next time with a textbook or...

What a breath of fresh air! First visit today after a string of trying other new (horrible & traumatizing) cafes with baristas who just plain hate people. The two young ladies behind the counter at Zoka were GENUINELY friendly and pleasant from the start. They said hello and asked me how I was doing (what?!) It was even semi-busy and they still had the mental capacity to have a great chat while working and keeping the line short! Had a great conversation with me about our favorite drinks, and actually seemed genuinely interested in knowing people and learning new things! Wow, how rare is that to find in the city of spite & sadness?! So this is my new coffee home. Also they have spicy chai, Minor Figures brand and Intrigue...

Not impressed. Ordered a breakfast sandwich and after 10 minutes I asked where it was. They forgot about it and I watched the gal toss it on the panini grill to warm it up. The result was a cold sandwich with cold egg. She handed me the sandwich after I said thanks, didn't say anything back and had a straight face as if I was inconveniencing her to get my sandwich when they were busy. Besides that the bread was dry and falling apart. The breakfast sandwich overall was pretty tasteless You can see in the photo. Coffee was honestly just ok. It has a weird flavor to it that I wasn't fond of. Won't be back and can't recommend the place.
