Goldfinch in Sebastopol is not a restaurant—it’s a full-blown lifestyle decision. Open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday and dinner all week long (because apparently sleep is for the weak), this place has singlehandedly ruined every other meal I’ll ever eat.

Lunch here feels like you’re auditioning for the role of “Cool Person Who Eats Thoughtfully Sourced Food” in an indie film. Dinner? That’s when things get serious—like, “I might start a biodynamic vineyard after this entrée” serious.

The food is ridiculous in the best way. You’ll order something simple like a salad, and it shows up looking like it’s been styled by Vogue. Every bite whispers, “Your palate is now too sophisticated for drive-thru fries, peasant.” My friend had the chicken and swore it was raised on affirmations and free jazz before being lightly seasoned and blessed by a crystal.

The cocktails? Dangerous. You sip one and suddenly you’re convinced you can play the banjo or start a kombucha empire. By the second, you’re ready to buy property in Sebastopol and argue about fermentation at the farmers market.

Basically, Goldfinch is open for lunch midweek and all weekend so you can pretend to be a casually glamorous foodie, and open for dinner every night so you can fully commit to the lifestyle. Forget eating—this is a spiritual awakening with...

Uncover Culinary Excellence at Sebastopol's Goldfinch

Tucked in charming Sebastopol lies a treasure, Goldfinch, where exemplary cuisine, elegant ambiance, and impeccable service converge. The exposed brick enhances the lively, modern bar aesthetics, creating an inviting, vibrant atmosphere.

Goldfinch's staff strike the perfect balance of personable and professional, while the menu delights with its flavorful complexities and expert craftsmanship.

Their lime-cured shrimp is a revelation. The citrusy acidity tamed by creamy avocado, punctuated with refreshing cucumber and a hint of spice, makes each bite a delectable adventure. Not to be overlooked, the focaccia, with its crisply baked exterior and warm, herbaceous interior, is a delight in texture and taste.

Indulge your sweet tooth with their decadent dessert offerings. Bring your appetite, as you'll want to sample each divine creation. As a seafood enthusiast, I eagerly anticipate my return for their scallops and grilled branzino.

Goldfinch rekindles the joy of dining out with its sophisticated yet approachable offerings. For those feeling jaded by restaurant experiences of the past, let Goldfinch be the breath of fresh culinary air that reignites your foodie flame.

I shall return again, and...

My husband and I went here on the most beautiful date. The food... Stunning The atmosphere.... So comfortable and hip The service.... Honestly maybe the finest I've had anywhere.

We were greeted at the hostess counter by Kelilah (sp?) Who graciously sat us about an hour before our reservation because we got the time wrong. She was friendly and super engaging while our table was prepped... an actual joy to talk to.

I hate that I can't remember our server's name but she was an absolutely delightful woman who treated us like friends coming to dinner at her home more so than strangers eating at the place where she works. She made great recommendations and was perfectly attentive, always there when we needed something, never invasive.

The food!!! We had: The Ahi Poke Pull Apart Focaccia Wood Fired Corn Special Wood Fired Eggplant

Everything was fabulous, Especially the Eggplant (which was listed as a small bite but was an entire eggplant and definitely the most delicious eggplant I've EVER eaten). The Corn was a cold dish, served over a cream that was to die for.

Highly recommend Goldfinch. Great date night, excellent place to go with friends... Oh and great non-alcoholic...

Would absolutely eat here again! The food was divine, and the chefs cooking in the open kitchen were absolutely amazing. The chef was very kind, and more helpful than the server was in terms of the dishes. The pork and the swordfish are delicious, as well as the ahi tuna and ceviche. To be fairly honest host was unhelpful. When we called to make reservation, she had said there wasn’t one. We booked a table online instead, which is surprising. When we arrived she wasn’t very inviting either. Anyways, woman who served us didn’t introduce herself, and barely spoke to us during the meal, and wasn’t very friendly throughout the meal. Our waters were never refilled, nor was our plates removed promptly when we finish our dishes. It didn’t effect our experience, however I think the owners should know that their front of house staff may need to be reminded that being friendly and inviting does a lot to make the experience overall enjoyable. When you are paying $200+ for a meal, the service should be just as important as the food. The food was the only reason I will return.

Goldfinch features beautiful decor and a great ambiance, though it can get a bit noisy. What We Ordered: Fire-Roasted Beets (11/10) – A standout dish! The caramelized yogurt, pistachios, and quick-pickled onions created a perfect balance of flavors and textures. Grilled 10oz Angus Hanger Steak (9.0/10) Well-prepared and shareable. The potato pavé and grilled broccolini complemented the steak beautifully. The gratin was good. Don't burn it too much, ha ha I’d suggest serving the red wine shallot reduction lightly on the plate with extra on the side. Chocolate Cake (9.5/10) – The white chocolate ganache was smooth and indulgent, but the hazelnut crunch was a bit too hard for my taste. Ginger Turmeric Mocktail (9.5/10) A vibrant, flavorful drink. Reducing the amount of ice would allow the bold flavors to shine even more. Goldfinch delivers an elevated dining experience with bold flavors and thoughtful pairings. A few minor tweaks could make it even better, but overall, it's a place worth revisiting!

Decided to give Goldfinch a try while visiting the local area. I want to start off by saying our waitress was amazing. She made us a personal list of places to visit in the area. But moving past that, the food wasn’t my favorite. We started off with focaccia bread and the rosemary was overbearing. My favorite dish was the butter poached potatoes. Light but savory. For dinner I got the grilled 10 oz angus hanger steak. It comes with caramelized peppers and potato pave. The steak had a weird taste to it and the peppers covered the dish which ruined it in my opinion. The red wine sauce took away from the cut as well. I didn’t love the dish. When the server assistant came over to ask if I was all set, I said yes, and she insinuated a box and I said “no thank you” .. So she threw my fork onto the plate, rolled her eyes and stormed away. I thought that was a bit rude. For the price-point, and food selection, I wouldn’t come back. For the cocktails and kind waitress, I would visit again!
