My wife and I went out for our anniversary, and we decided to try this place. The food was just excellent.
Appetizers: Special for the day - It was some kind of mediterranean tomatoe slices. It was covered in basil, fried okra, a French ranch sauce, and other mediterraean seasonings. It was amazing. We also ordered the rolls. You get 6 small yeast rolls for $3. They are cooked perfectly and include butter and large pieces of sea salt. They were excellent. You must try them.
Entrees: My wife had the mediterranean smoked chicken. It was moist and tender, and had a delightful, slightly-blackened outside. It was served on top of couscous. I don't usually like couscous, but this was great. The flavors were potent but light. It felt very healthy while also being delicious. I ate almond trout. It's skinned trout filet (boneless) that's been butterflied (cut in half with each skin side down), covered in some kind of almond butter sauce and almond shavings. It was milder in flavor than the chicken, but the flavors went really well together.
Desserts: My wife had a strawberry cake with sliced strawberries, strawberry syrup, and French vanilla ice cream. I had chocolate bouchon (3 little cakes shaped like large corks) with chocolate sauce and French vanilla ice cream. Both desserts were very good.
What about value? Well, the total does come out to be pretty high. Before tip, the bill for the above was $82. I would gladly purchase the appetizers and entrees again. The downside for us was the price of the desserts, though they were very good. They are small, single-serving desserts and cost $10 each. I had a $2 sweet tea (infinite refills), and my wife had water. We had no alcohol. Last, I will say that the portions for the entrees and appetizers were sufficient. Considering all that we ate, we came away stuffed and took home leftovers for our family to try.
Decorations: All of the decorations looked very French. There were ornate leaf-like lighting fixtures and mirrors with intricately-designed frames. The wall color was a pale yellow with dark-blue furniture to compliment it. The table tops appeared to be granite or quartz. It all went together nicely. The only thing that some would consider questionable is that they had a large picture with lots of nude mermaids.
We would highly recommend their food. I'm a southern boy, and they didn't put anything in our dishes that anyone would consider "weird". They took ingredients we've all heard of and combined them in unique ways to produce a special meal for those who can't usually...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I were really looking forward to our experience and Motherās Day brunch after reading the reviews but unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. We made reservations and knew we would be sitting outside but there was no ambiance or bistro feel. We were just sat next to wall with nothing but a white tablecloth. No silverware, napkin, nothing. Bistros normally have a nice table setting and/or centerpiece. I was surprised that the staff was not uniformly dressed or at least dressed in business casual for the price you pay to eat here. Our waiter kept saying he wasnāt familiar with the menu because he normally works at night when he was asked about a couple items. If thatās the case, then please excuse yourself and get the answers. My thought was he was the bartender. For the price, the portions were very small and we waited for at least 35-40mins for the entrees. The waiter kept saying ours was next but the kitchen was busy. Of course it is, it was Motherās Day. If you canāt handle the volume and give a good experience for the prices you are charging, than donāt seat as many people. Concentrate on a small clientele, and give them a good experience. Once the entree came out, we asked for a side of ranch for the thin frittes but he passed by several times until I had to remind him. When he finally brought the dollup (literally) of ranch we were 3/4 of the way done with what we wanted it for. Then, he charges me $.50 for it. Are you kidding me? Itās the little things that magnify when you have bad service and that was a slap in the face. For us, we wouldāve been back even if it was just mediocre but it wasnāt. I ordered the quiche and after the long wait it was literally a small slice and it was cold. Anyway, Iām actually not one for reviews and donāt mind paying more for great service and food but this experience was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had a birthday party here with 18 people, and everything went smoothly. The chef managed to bring out all the food at the same time, even though we had a lot of different orders. Thatās really impressive! Beef Bourguignon (my main): It was so tender and flavorful. Itās definitely one of the best versions of this dish on the menu. Bistro Hilary is famous for it, and for good reason. Deviled Eggs - They were a unique twist on the usual. They were a bit different, but they were also tasty and had a nice crunch. Other people who ordered them also liked them. Chocolate Mousse It was so rich and decadent. It was the perfect ending to the meal. People often rave about the desserts here, and this one lived up to the hype. The service and timing were great. Even with 18 different orders, the kitchen worked together perfectly. We were seated in a private room. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. They have a nice indoor dining room and a lovely outdoor patio. The staff was friendly and made the party feel special. The menu is a bit pricey, and the portions are a bit small for the price. Bistro Hilary is a great place for a special occasion or a group event. The food is really good, especially the beef bourguignon, the deviled eggs, and the chocolate mousse. Itās not the cheapest place to eat, but itās worth it for the quality and the experience.
