Today my mother and I went to Borgo Italia for the very first time. Originally, we had planned to go to a different restaurant, but it was closed so we decided to try something new. My mother has Alpha Gal Syndrome and cannot have any mammal byproducts whatsoever, so she was nervous about going somewhere that she wasn't sure would be able to accommodate her dietary needs. She was so excited when she saw the vegan dishes on the last page of the menu, and she was even more excited to learn that one of the owners is also vegan so the food really would be clean and free from anything that could cause her to become sick.
When we first walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by the owner who let us pick where we wanted to sit. I was awestruck by the chandelier and the elegant way everything is set up and pieced together. It felt like being in a movie. We were also Greeted by a little girl in pajamas, a chef hat and apron and the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. She was pretending to be a chef while her parents worked. She brought me pretend food that she had made and asked me what I would like to eat. In the beginning her parents tried to shoe her away from our table but I really didn’t mind her coming over to talk to us. Recently I lost two daughters. I have been deeply struggling to grieve. The way she played and pretended, and her bright little spirit reminded me so much of my oldest daughter when she was a little girl, that I started to cry. I couldn’t stop myself. I felt embarrassed that I couldn’t control my emotions, so I went to the bathroom to try to calm down. When I returned to the table the owner and his young daughter were talking to my mom. He patted my shoulder and explained how he had been in the military and his daughter had seizures and even though he is tough even he breaks down when something involves his child and that I shouldn’t feel embarrassed. I shared with him that I too am a veteran and I also have a son who has seizures and so I understood how terrifying that is, a few moments later he asked me if I liked dogs. I said yes but wasn’t sure why he was asking. He left the table and then returned with his wife and their service dog who helps to treat anxiety and panic. They sat with me for a while and talked to me and let me pet the dog until they could tell I was feeling better. I was so blown away by their kindness and compassion. I have never had a stranger be so understanding. They treated me like I was a friend, and I could tell they really did care about how I was feeling. Shortly after we finished talking, our food arrived. I had the Margherita Pizza, and my mother had the Rigatoni Dell’ortolano. Mom was more than pleased she just kept saying “Oh, this is so good!” I was also very pleased. The pizza had a thin crispy crust that was also somehow light and fluffy. It had a delicious thick coating of cheese on top and the perfect amount of sauce, olive oil and fresh basil. I was so impressed. I don’t think I have ever had a better dining experience. I don’t think I will ever be able to enjoy another pizza the same way as this one either. It had so much flavor, it was exactly like I dream of pizza tasting. Before we left my mother told me she was so glad the other restaurant was closed because we would have missed such a wonderful meal.
From the people to the food Borgo Italia, I can only describe as love. It is evident that there is so much love and joy that they put into their work. I cannot wait to go back and bring my little boys along with me. I hope they never stop their sweet daughter from playing throughout the restaurant; she brought both my mother and I so much joy.
If you don't believe me, go taste and see for yourself, you won't be...
Read moreNot a "Fast food" like all in Georgia, but a real restaurant that make dishes for you.
I am in Georgia for tourism and went Senoia (the city of The Walking Dead) to take some photos. With pleasure I discover that just the day before Borgo Italia was inaugurated, a restaurant that I was told before was in another city in the area, and that now took this beautiful place. Good for me, I am Italian and I had want to eat something familiar to me.
It was Saturday, the place was full and the waiters and owners ran up and down to better serve the people. I waited about 20 minutes before I had my table, but it was a pleasant wait, they have a very equipped bar and with an excellent barman, I took my drink waiting for my turn and sat down.
New local, new waiters and lots of people, (but really a lot, must be THE “IN” RESTOURANT of the area), I found it normal to have to wait a little for my meal... Indeed I am sincere, I found it normal because all the dishes I tried were cooked express for me, so nothing that could be ready as in a fast food, but real restaurant food, which does what you asked at the time you asked. I have always lived in a negative way the food that arrives in a few minutes, because to get there immediately means only one thing: "It was done before".
Instead, a food made just for me needs its proper cooking time, I also said to myself: "I want to enjoy dinner, what’s the hurry ? I’m here to have a nice evening, if I was in a hurry I could go to one of the many fast food restaurants I found around Georgia. “
But let’s face it, in the final the wait has also been rewarded by the quality of the food. Honestly I never expected to find so far from home such good food. I was hungry and I ordered a fillet with porcini mushrooms and a pizza "Maialona" (The names that are used abroad for Italian dishes are too funny, However we are sincere “right name” for those who understand the Italian word game, and in fact I chose it because of its name. I think I can translate the name of this pizza as “Piggy Pizza” In Italy often we tell to Baby “You eat like a small pig” when they eat all with love, because they like the flavor)… and all my dishes had a SPECTACULAR flavor. The pizza was identical to the one I eat in Rome, especially as big as a real Italian Pizza and not as the pizzas I found in all the United States.
Then at the end of the meal I obviously discovered the secret... the restaurant owners are a family of real Italians who try to get the most suitable products to recreate a small corner of Italy in the United States... And judging by how many people come to them, I’d say they did.
I recommend everyone to go there, whether you are Italian or you live in America and you are passing through Senoia. Do not be afraid to wait a few minutes to be served, it means that the food is really doing it for you. If this restaurant was in Italy I would definitely go back... pity only that for me is 8000...

So this is the second time I came here and the last time also. My first time I hadn't made a reservation for Mother's Day so they let me know they had no seating, honestly I understood and didn't think anything of it. So we attempted to go again this weekend. We walk in and the owners just look at us. Yep for around a minute or two, they look then they turn there head away, then the old man looks and ignores then the daughter motions to him to come to us.
Not thinking my family is hideous looking or monsters but he reluctantly asks me if I have a reservation, not knowing I needed one for a standard weekend, I replied no. He again w reluctance said he would find us a table but it would be a small one and he would have a chair brought over for our young daughter.
Well, the daughter was our server and I can't say she is exactly pleasant either. We ordered meatballs w spaghetti and chicken Marsala. As we waited I was hopeful we would enjoy the upcoming food and while we waited we discussed: what's better to goto a restaurant w good food and rude service or to go where the service is good and the food is average. This made for an interesting topic. So we conversed ate some bread they delivered ( I think it's Publix take n bake) or Aldi's maybe and finally the food came. After hearing the owners fuss at one another in Italian a few times I actually thought maybe this would be authentic and worth the misery of this place after all.
Wish it was true, I can't say I've ever eaten such a yucky chicken marsla before - absolutely loaded with virgin olive oil ( this is a first for me ) maybe they ran out of Marsala wine and thought I'd not notice. The meatballs also where overcooked.
Needless to say the answer to hopes was - we will never come back here again - total waste of money, and incredibly rude owners. I don't know how PTC people think this place is good ( I live here in PTC also) but I guess since there really isn't any great place here to eat, we all become accustomed to mediocre. However this place is below mediocre and I'm guessing it's authentic to the recipes of the owners mom - apparently she was a bad cook or else her kids can't delegate recipes.
Bottom line is this. If you want to be ignored, given pretty much zero service from a waitress and eat bad food in a not so cheery atmosphere - this is your place to go, but if you looking for anything else then pass this by, they won't be around for 2 more years with...
