I was excited to try this place because the menu is very diverse. I am gluten free and my husband only eats fish (no meat) and there were so many things on the menu that would suit either of us.
This little place is gorgeous. Great patio right on the bridge with gaslamps lighting the walkway at night. The interior decor in the bar is really unique and upscale for a taco bar. There is a small intimate seating area, or taller tables next to the gigantic glass garage-style doors. Even the hallway to the UNISEX bathrooms is stylish, and bright.
Service: very prompt, friendly, informed and accommodating.
To start: The Machete cocktail and a Margarita, made spicy with muddled jalapenos. They were good, but there is definitely room for improvement in the presentation and taste. With the premium price, I recommend that the Mixmaster choose a signature glass for each cocktail and ensure that the garnishes are original, abundant and fresh. A little too much ice, but we still drained both glasses. I look forward to seeing how the drink presentation evolves--recipes look great.
Plata's: Pickled veggies, plus black bean hummus/chips. I would order both again. The veggies were a signature item. I've never tasted anything like them, and each type of vegetable tasted different. Spicy, tangy with an very good seasoning mix. I love heat. Black Bean hummus with goat cheese and corn salsa. Delicious and creamy. The salsa added texture and flavor. I would also love to see a bit more panache in the presentation, but with prices as low as $5 for the pickles you can't argue with the dish they are served in. Chips were freshly made.
Tacos: My husband ordered two each: mahi-mahi and Baja fish. The portion of fish on the Baja was huge, but overwhelmed the tasty garnishes. He was happy to have lots of fish, but asked for a spicy salsa to make it more tasty. The mahi-mahi tacos were things of beauty; elegant and pretty on the plate with a few enormous, dark and glossy beans along with the crisp vegetable garnishes. He said they were excellent.
I ordered 1 each: chicken, carnitas and asparagus. My tacos were all amazing. Each one was filled to the brim: I've been to other upscale taco places and sometimes they skimp on the fillings. I needed extra napkins! The tortillas were incredible. I've never tasted richer, more toothsome soft corn tortillas--they stayed intact from the first bite to the last. Unexpected and good!
This review is already too long, so let's just say that I would order each one of those tacos again!
No room for dessert, but next time we'll come in for a flight of tequilas, the flan and...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I have frequented Tacomida for the last 6 months as our favorite watering hole, and loved everything about it. Recently we showed up and sat at the bar. The bartender asked us for our ID’s as soon as we sat down. We are both 22 and look young, this was a reasonable request. We took out our ID’s and waited for about 7 minutes before she came and actually checked them. When she finally came to take a look she held both of our ID’s up to light without even looking and said “I hate to tell you, but there is no whale on your cards so I won’t be able to serve you today.” She made an assumption that we had shown up underaged with fake Id’s and completely dismissed us from the moment she saw us, then after she took a look again she embarrassingly realized that they both had this whale on the card, and that we were both of legal age with legitimate ID’s. It was annoying, but people make mistakes, we didn’t care. We ordered 3 rounds of drinks after. We had just come from a dinner, so didn’t order food. When my girlfriend went to order her 4th and last drink, the same bartender refused to serve her , saying “you haven't ordered any food, and I haven’t seen you drink any of your water, so unfortunately I can’t give you another drink. I can’t have you leaving here drunk as fck.” We were peaceful and silent the entire time we were there, minding our own business, and acting as pleasant as anyone could. There was no sign that she was intoxicated or “drunk as fck,” as the bartender said (she wasn’t even driving). It felt like she was out to get us the whole time we were there. This bartender made us feel as if we were not welcome at the establishment, and it would be best if we left. We weren’t confrontational with her, and even left a decent tip ( much more than deserved) after that. We left, and brought our business to another bar to have our last drink of the night. We felt targeted, and my girlfriend left feeling extremely embarrassed. Tacomida was our spot, our go to favorite date night place. The food and drinks are great, and typically our servers are extremely kind and helpful, they always remember us, and have even given us complimentary items before, but after the way we were patronized, cut off, and mistreated by this bartender, we are not sure we feel comfortable coming back anymore. It is with great remorse that I have to write this review because we truly have loved Tacomida. No bar should be cutting off their pleasant, peaceful, respectful customers by any means. This is unacceptable, and you will be losing good spending customers if this is a...
Read moreHave been coming to Tacomida for the past few years. Never had a bad experience, until tonight which was such an unfortunate experience, I feel as though it should be voiced so customers can be warned and decide if this is a place they want to continue supporting.
Pregnant, ordered a VIRGIN strawberry mojito. Got served a very clearly not virgin strawberry margarita. Waitress took about 20 minutes to come and “correct” this mistake. She forgot the order again while walking up to the bar. Comes back and says “hey I just want to make sure I got your order correct. It’s a skinny mojito right?” Cared so little about her job that again she would serve me another non virgin drink.
Another 20 minutes pass. By then we are just sitting with an app, and my husbands drink. She comes back with my drink (which I am too afraid to even sip at this point), takes our order. Just a few tacos and some yuca fries. Half an hour passes. She comes back and asks how everything is going. I politely ask where the food is. She starts to scramble and blame the kitchen but it was clear as day she pulled the “forgot to ring in the order, rings it in and plays dumb” tactic. Food comes out within ten minutes, everything is hot which tells you, she indeed did this tactic. Was disappointed at how skimpy the tacos have gotten since I last came here in the beginning of spring. Portion of yuca fries were also cut in half to what I recall them being.
Honestly should’ve known something was wrong considering the place was dead on taco Tuesday. Will be calling the establishment regarding the drink situation. I would say this was an “off” night but careless ness regarding my drink makes me not want to come back and warn others to not patronize as well. There’s no excuse for serving a pregnant woman alcohol, especially when she clarifies that she’s pregnant and you not once, but twice,...
