The Ice Cream Shoppe — Restaurant in Shelton

Made on premises doesn't always mean good. This usually means that a place can have a variety of flavors usually not found elsewhere or their particular cookies and cream blend might be better or worse than a competitor. Given how many positive reviews, I thought it was worth a shot.

I was disappointed in the texture and flavor of the ice cream. This is my opinion and should be taken as such. I'm from out of town, and I've had ice cream that far surpasses this one (again, my opinion). I thought it was just the flavor that I got, but I was equally underwhelmed by the flavor my spouse picked. Hers was Cookies & Cream... Kind of hard to mess up Oreos in vanilla ice cream. Wasn't bad, but not worth the hype.

My biggest complaint is that it seems to be a premium price for mediocre ice cream. The amount in a large can easily fit into a small. This may simply be because I'm in Connecticut, where I'm pretty sure they would tax the amount of letters written in this review if they could.

Atmosphere was that of a small hometown ice cream shop. Quiet with no fancy theme. Nothing wrong in that department and the employees were nice.

Since summer’s coming to a close and we've lived in the community for 4 years now, my family (party of 8) decided to stop by for some ice cream. We were excited to try the place, but the experience was unfortunately disappointing from the start. We asked to taste the ice cream before purchasing — a common courtesy at most ice cream shops and certainly standard in places I’ve visited, including in Italy and other major franchises. We were told tastings were not allowed. That was surprising, but we still decided to order. Unfortunately, several of our orders were incorrect, and the overall service lacked attention and any welcoming presence. It felt like our business wasn’t valued at all. For my first time being there I was very disappointed with the service I was given. I was bummed as soon as I get there when I learned that they had no cones however things like that happen so no big deal. I asked for 2 scoops of apple pie and 2 scoops of pumpkin ice cream when I saw how small the scoops were and how small the cup was I asked for a bigger size and said I would like more than that and I apologized as I stated it was my first time there. So she dumps the 2 scoops of apple pie and the one scoop of pumpkin ice cream she had already served into the medium size cup and just added one more tiny scoop of pumpkin and I was charged almost $8 for a tiny bit of ice cream.
