What a gem in an unexpected small town. I'm from California and was visiting a friend in Sherwood. He recommended we go here for breakfast and then he got sick on me just as I parked. But after staring at the menu all morning online, I was not deterred one bit from going in. I told my friend I'm going to order three things because I couldn't decide. He laughed and encouraged me to do it and bring it over to his house. He was too sick to eat so I finished all three by myself.
The number one wish list item was the chicken and waffles, followed by the breakfast grilled cheese, and then the Morning Magic avo toast. All three did not disappoint and I wish I lived closer so I could go back more frequently.
The Mornjng Magic did cast a spell on me. The flavor profile was so interesting. First I'm a sucker for hot honey and to mix that with a lemon herb ricotta just made me order it. I was also curious how one shreds an egg. Now I know. As you take your bite, the honey hits you first, then the avo and egg come in, and as you swallow a hint of lemon herb hits you. Every bite was so good and fresh. If you're an avo toast person I highly recommend. I would want more hot honey drizzled on it but that's my personal taste.
The chicken and waffles were bonkers good. That may be the best fried chicken I have eaten. Boneless and skinless thighs dipped in some amazing gooey goodness and fried to perfection. I would just order a plate or two of that chicken. So scrumptious.
But for me, the absolute star of my meal was the Grilled Cheese Breakfast Sandwhich. So many people commented about their bourbon French toast and I really wanted to try it. But this grilled cheese uses two slices of them and smashes three types of cheeses, bacon, and an egg in the middle of them. Take my money and give me five more please! I can't tell you how well all the flavors worked together. Pouring maple syrup on each bite made it even more divine. Typing this makes me want another one right now. The French toast on its own is worth visiting this place, but if you can combine it with all that other great stuff, please do yourself a favor and order the breakfast grilled cheese.
Before I go I want to compliment the staff. Everyone was smiling and so kind. As I waited for my to go order I was offered coffee and given multiple announcements to let me know where in the process my food was. I didn't even ask for any of it, but they were so considerate. That's a business we all should support. Thank you Fat Milo's for a great memory visiting Oregon. I...
Read moreThe food was quite delicious. I ordered the Reuben Sandwich, my wife ordered the "The Spanish", and my daughter ordered the grilled cheese. The food was delicious and we found the restaurant to be very cute and enjoyable. When we were nearly complete with our meal a new server with brunette hair and glasses briskly walked by asking how our food was. My wife responded with "good" but she did not stop walking by to wait for my response. A short time later our server Britni stopped by the table to ask us again how the food was and waited for our response. I asked her if she wanted an honest answer. Britni replied yes. I told her that the food was delicious and I love everything about it, but the Corned Beef was a little too thick and full of gristle to eat without the sandwich falling apart. I had suggested a smaller cut of beef so that it would be easier to eat without the sandwich falling apart but emphasized the taste was wonderful. While I was reporting my experience to our server, my wife observed the the unknown brunette with glasses at the bar area behind me overhear my review scowling in response. Britni thanked me for my review and said she would report it back to the kitchen. She then walked back to the bar where the brunette server was scowling and my wife proceeded to over hear them complain about people who complained about food.
After the negative experience I decided that I would not give them a review my daughter sandwich. My daughter had ordered a grilled cheese and it came with a pepper jack cheese on it. Our fault for not double-checking the type of cheese used, but it was way too spicy for our daughter. It was our bad for making the assumption that a children's sandwich from the children's menu would come with typical mild cheese. Needless to say, I wasn't about to say anything further. I think this place has incredible potential and I thought the food was delicious.
I was taken back when I was asked for my opinion of the food, and when given, received a snarky and uncomfortable response from one of the staff. I would have been happier to keep my comments to myself. Unfortunately the servers overshadowed any potential good. Until our experience with the servers I planed to give the restaurant a 5-star review. this restaurant serves food to the Sherwood charter school which my child attends. We're so taken back from the experience we are unsure whether or not we are going to continue to purchase food items for her lunches through the school moving forward and we plan to share our experience...
Read moreThe atmosphere was nice with a diner feel to it. The servers were polite and prompt. Family friendly. My issue is the food. We ordered kids pancakes, shrimp and grits, and bourbon French toast.
The shrimp and grits were confusing. It was presented as a southern breakfast with a side of collard greens, but the red sauce on the shrimp tasted like taco seasoning! The grits were very lumpy but cooked through. The mouth feel left me gaggy. Which sucks because I love grits and have had it made many ways and many times. Shrimp was cooked through and large. The sauce was fine in itself, but all together, it didn't make sense. Is it Southern? Creole? Mexican? I could not tell. The collard greens were very vinigery. Couldn't eat more than 2 bites. I'm really sad over that. Completely inedible.
The coffee was weird, too. I tried it black and thought that's a weird aftertaste. So I added cream and Splenda, which I do sometimes, and still had a weird taste not related to the Splenda.
The kids' pancakes were presented very cute! With faces on them, of course. Very nice. Yet the kiddos said they didn't want to eat much of it after a few bites. Which is odd for them. I took a bite, and it had a super weird taste to it as well. It had that raw taste even though it was cooked completely through. I don't know how to explain it. Something is wrong with the recipe or mix they use. The husband said it tasted like cardboard. Definitely didn't taste like buttermilk or even like a flour pancake. We drowned it in syrup, but that did not improve anything.
My husband said his Burboun French toast was good, and it was! He also tried all our leftovers and said the same thing. It all has a weird aftertaste. I suggest checking that the freezers and fridge temperatures are correct and that your mix isn't old or if the recipe needs altering. For such a nice place and nice staff, it was sad that 75% of the...
