My bf took me to this restaurant recently, it was the first time for both of us. Walking into the restaurant, we both noticed the cute, eccentric décor and commented on it. The restaurant has a nice homey feel, but is small for the amount of tables and can seem a bit loud when the tables are filled. Given there wasn't much on the menu to choose from (nothing really looked very enticing to me) I chose to just drink water since I had eaten beforehand and wanted to gauge how his meal was. He ordered the "flank steak" which included bread with olive oil, flank steak (of course), mashed potatoes and asparagus. He put around five pieces of the steak on a plate for me to try. I proceeded to chew the steak...and chew the steak....and chew the steak. I then gave him back nearly all the steak he had given me to try. He told me in a low voice that this was the toughest steak he had ever eaten in a restaurant and I agreed, it also was lacking in flavor. Now, I am no chef by any means, but it seemed like this steak needed some serious pounding beforehand and this step was skipped, it was a bad cut, was cooked improperly or all of the above. My bf had asked for medium well and it was definitely cooked beyond that. If you are going to serve very tough steak, at least provide a proper steak knife to cut it with, he was struggling to cut it with the knife he was given! The potatoes he said were "so-so" and the asparagus we both tried, was ok. He did say the bread was very good. Apparently this restaurant is usually so crowded, reservations are required! Why?! Either everyone must be drinking so much they don't notice that the food isn't that great or my bf just had a bad meal. Sherwood is far from lacking in restaurants, no reason for us to go back to this one again. I gave one star here due to the wait staff being mostly attentive, although it took a while to...
Read moreI don't give high ratings except in rare circumstances, i.e. Anne Gunns in St. Louis, Chicago Chophouse in Chicago, etc. However, as someone that lived in Italy for a year I can say with absolute authority that this is not only one of the most authentic Italian meals I have eaten since I left Italy but one of the best tasting as well. The pasta is handmade each day and every ingredient is local, fresh and well handled. The salad with lightly tossed oils, a bread pizza crust that is skillet fried, and the dishes - regular and specials are executed with perfection. Be bold and take a chance on whatever they are serving...the experience is well worth every bite.
Mimmo and Sal are a perfect team that deliver excellent food and a selection of Italian wines well paired to the dishes they serve. Their restaurant is small with only a handful of tables, six I think, and a few torn chairs but for those that have visited Italy, this is a common street side restaurant that is the heart of dinning in Italy.
When visiting Da Mimmo's don't expect white tablecloths and black-suited waiters. What you will find a very simple restaurant with a friendly staff and excellent food. The menu is small but there is heart in everything they make. Have questions...ask as I found their knowledge of the food, ingredients, and the history of each dish to be remarkable. To me, it was a step back into time and some of favorite places in Italy.
I look forward to my next trip to Oregon and dinning at what has clearly become one of my favorite restaurants. Their motto is, "con passione e amore" and it is obvious from the first bite that passion and love go...
Read moreThis was our second time dining at Mason. The first time was a few years ago during major covid. We dined outside. It was such a nice experience. Someone, the owner perhaps, was walking around with locally foraged huge mushrooms for you to choose to have grilled. We chose to do that! We were presented with the beautiful grilled mushrooms on a bed of pasta with an incredible buttery herbaceous sauce. Tonight we ordered escargot. We travel to France often and we love escargot. I was excited to see escargot on the menu. We each ordered them. We both thought they were a bit mushy. They lacked the firmness one expects. They were baked in traditional snail butter. Next we the charcuterie with pickled vegetables and fruit. Typical meats and cheeses, no complaints. The 3 pickled asparagus were fantastic! Then the rest of the pickled vegetables were pickled Brussel sprouts, 4 of them. Nobody like Brussel sprouts. Entrees were flank steak $34 and Chicken Marsala $35. Both were specials and we did not ask the prices. One half of a pounded out chicken breast with some mushrooms and pasta for $35? Don’t get we wrong, the food was very nice but not worth the price tag. The staff is nice, but unfortunately isn’t very knowledgeable. Not a fault of theirs, but of management. TRAIN YOUR STAFF! They need to know, that means taste, the menu and wines. They can’t sell what they don’t know! We did meet some regulars tonight who really enjoy the place so,...
