First let me say we have been patrons of pig n chik for a long time and have always enjoyed it. However, we ordered takeout tonight for the first time since March (because, 2020). It was such a mess. So many things wrong. First, they stated that our food would be ready for pick up 25 minutes from the time my husband called it in. I arrived at that time and saw that the line around the building wasn't moving at all so I parked and went inside. There were 8 people in line waiting. The women up front weren't asking names, they were just letting everyone wait in line, regardless of whether or not your food was ready and sitting in the window getting cold. Same thing with the drive through. Instead of making people circle back around when their food isn't ready (which makes sense and most places do), they just let the person sit there and wait on their food. So when I got to the register, there my food was in the window (and had been since before I walked in--l had been watching the window the whole time I stood there.) There's a better way to do this. How about someone greeting patrons as they walk in, getting their name right away, and checking to see if their food is ready?? On top of all this, everyone in line was wearing a mask, per the city mandate. BUT not one of the people working there had a mask on, no one in the kitchen (which you can clearly see from where we were all standing) and no one up front, where they were opening boxes AND TALKING OVER THEM, which is disgusting on a normal day. There is no reason to be reading a ticket out loud to yourself while checking my order! Also, if you're even breathing over people's food, you should have a mask on! It really bothered me and no doubt all the other people standing there WEARING MASKS. So, for now we aren't going back. Maybe when things go back to normal, we'll give it another...
Read moreThe barbecue sandwiches are fairly tasty. Large chunks of pork, with or without slaw and saucy. They also offered several sizes of catfish plates. Or you can browse the menu, and order off of that. The menu lists appetizers to sample while your food is cooking. As well as the daily lunch specials that they also served. The lunch specials are typical of a regular cafe, served hot on a plate lunch, served either with a meat or as a veggie plate with either regular or jalapeno cornbread! They also offered an array different sandwiches from hamburgers, tuna salad, and others if you just want a sandwich. The large, thick onion rings certainly looked good on a fellow diners plate! I enjoyed my veggie plate of green beans, corn on the cob, fried okra, mashed potatoes and gravy and a regular cornbread muffin. Now, all the food was under seasoned-- lacking flavor from salt, pepper, or any other seasonings. But I persevered with pepper! They could season with mixed seasoning blends, bacon, butter and even a little sugar and salt! But---- OMG---- Be SURE to leave room in your tummy for DESSERT!!!! We both got the BlackBerry Cobbler!!! Tears came into my eyes as I dug in to the hot, juicy delight that tasted just like my mom's did!! My husband had his topped with vanilla ice cream, melting down among the berries. I ate my cobbler just the way we usually ate it--- no toppings!! The cobbler was so awesome! I am SO glad that I ordered it! I usually don't order dessert. I may go back for just a bowl of cobbler and a glass of iced tea. There was plenty of local folks coming in while we were there, and most seemed to order the catfish platters, so might start there! The wait staff are all "Y'all come back!" friendly and attentive...
Read moreThis is the prototypical place that would be on Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. You can get anything from a taco, to fried rice, to ribs, to a reuben sandwich. If a place offers this big of a variety, you can be assured that nothing is really great. You can also be assured that nothing is cooked fresh.
You can also buy bubble gum, atomic fireballs, blow pops, canned sodas to go, tie died tshirts, Advil, gum, etc.
The food isn't bad, but it isn't great either. It taste like any other restaurant that mass orders frozen food. It wouldn't surprise me if they used the same vat of oil to cook the fries, fish, chicken, mozzarella sticks, and everything else.
I ordered the ribs They were under-seasoned, but they werent bad. They were moist and had a little bit of smoke flavor. The fries were good and crispy.
The service was terrible. We went on a Friday night, and there were two servers working the entire restaurant. There is another lady who is taking drink orders and another lady working the drive through menu. It is absurdly understaffed. We got to the restaurant at 6:15, and didn't get our food until 7:45. It took 2 hours from the time we got there until the time we left.
I don't think it was the server's fault or the kitchen's fault. I think it was the Management's fault for understaffing.
At least the food was hot when we did finally get it.
We won't be going...
