As a vegan, I noticed they do have a few seemingly vegan items on their menu, but you have to ask about cheese because sometimes it's a hidden ingredient. Like with the Tomato Artichoke Basil noodle bowl, it has pesto in it, which is normally made with cheese. So I asked the cashier about it and she pulled out an ingredient binder and tried to look it up, but had no success finding it in the book. So I ordered the Portabella Quinoa bowl instead and specifically asked for no cheese, just in case. It was quite tasty, but definitely check your teeth after eating it 'cuz the quinoa likes to hide in between. As far as Covid safety measures, no one is wearing masks and that includes the staff (see photo) and the customers are socially distancing themselves. It doesn't appear the City Market is encouraging safe practices on their own except for a lone bottle of hand sanitizer at the register. So while I'd love to give this place 4 stars for food, I have to knock a star off because of the lax safety...

It was my first time coming here and certainly my last. I ordered Mac and cheese and they charged me for chicken in it as well (I never asked for chicken in my Mac and cheese). I then ordered a chicken side salad (thinking it was a salad with lettuce in it), I asked the cashier what was all in the salad and he said “I don’t know it’s my second day here”. I then asked the dressing options for the “salad” and he said it was “predressed”. I got my food, was way over charged, and the chicken salad was not an actual salad like the cashier had basically said it was. The manager Sarafina was extremely rude, and did nothing about it. It’s not the cashiers fault, they shouldn’t be putting 2nd day workers on the register if they don’t know the menu yet. All the workers just stared at me for being upset, but when your overcharged and pay $20 for a meal, the workers should at least be able to clarify what’s in the food when a customer asks...

The food is great , it is the service that I find awful. After reading so many great things about this place , I am thinking it is personal. Four out of the last four times I have been there, there has been a problem. After being in the service industry for thirty years, I can honestly say if I ran my business the way I have been treated here I would not have a business anymore. This time I ordered my food , waited in a very long line with only one register open only to be told they didn’t have the order I called in. This is one of MANY stories I have. It is frustrating because they can do whatever they want , the business really is the only one if it’s kind in the one mile area that makes up Shorewood. I have been right down the road from City Market since it has started and I have always just kept going because the food is great. I won’t be going anymore because the service I have dealt with there just isn’t...

I was a first time visitor and I'd heard great things about the food. For a first time guest, it was a little confusing. It LOOKS like they have table service and they kind of have bits of it. You order at the counter, find a seat, and then your food is brought to. The menu is fairly substantial so counter service is a bit daunting. But, after reading the large version of the menu off to one side, you attempt to get someone's attention (don't give up, the food is worth it), you then go find yourself a seat. Oops, wait! Did you order a can of soda? Again, a newbie would not automatically think it was self-serve from the cooler behind them....but it is. Grab one on your way to your seat. Service is lightning fast. It's not particularly friendly, more inoffensively neutral. And it seemed reasonably priced. I had the veggie stack sandwich.

So when we first entered the establishment, I was really impressed with the ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant. It had a cozy feel and was very contemporary. Love It! It gives you that coffee shop feel where you can get your favorite chicken and waffles. So we ordered our food and everything was good overall. There were a few nitpicking things, such as I didn't like the cashier's attitude. I thought it came across a bit dismissive and snoodie. I must admit that was off-putting. But the reason I gave it 5 stars 🌟 because of how they handled a mistake with the food. They made a mistake and took full responsibility, and made things right. I really appreciated the adulting and the good business sense. Their food was really delicious, and I will return in the future, God willing.
