I seldom write reviews, but last night we had cocktails and dinner at The Brat House. We were a large group celebrating a friends birthday. We were given 2 menus…one their cocktail menu and the other the dinner menu.
Our waitress had little if any experience, but she was really nice…and I think she was never trained as a waitress.
We all ordered the cocktail hour drinks…then a bit later the build a burger.
My husband and I each had two drinks…I was charged 7.00 instead of cocktail hour price of 6.00. Not a huge deal. We each ordered the 4.00 build a burger…I ordered a side of tater tops my husband ordered fries.
When we got our check our bill was 60.00. My husbands 4.00 burger with mayo and fries was 12.00. My burger was a cheeseburger with lettuce , tomato and onions and a side of tater tots…17.00.
The manager came to our table and showed us the build a burger menu with an extra charge for everything…they charged my husband 7.00 for mayo.
The food was ok…we never received this menu…so they did not give us cocktail prices and their Monday 4.00 burgers were 12.00 and 17.00.
A new waitress no big deal, the manager was trying her best…but honestly I blame the owners on this….don’t make something “special” and add all the misleading charges. Honestly neither burger was worth it. This is just a bad way to run a business.
It explained all the open tables. Lesson learned, bad business,...
Read moreI'm going to do something I rarely do -- revise a restaurant review. I recently ripped the Milwaukee Brat House on Shorewood for poor service after the waitress took our order, but went home without turning it in to the kitchen. Our party of five waited about an hour before we were finally advised our food wasn't coming. Not surprisingly, I was pretty miffed, especially since dining at the Brat House was part of my daughter's birthday celebration.
The post-script is that I received a personal phone call from the General Manager, who apologized for the apparent breakdown in service while she was away. To her credit, she offered a sincere apology, explained that a shift change may have contributed to the problem, and promised to make it right on our next visit.
Mistakes can and do happen. I've made a few myself, and I'll concede that a hot temper may have influenced my earlier review. Our visit came immediately before a Milwaukee Brewers home game, so it's conceivable they were busier than usual. The poor service I wrote about was, in fact, an anomaly. I've always had good service before.
Setting the record straight, Milwaukee Brat House is a great place, it has a pleasant atmosphere, good (albeit somewhat pricey) brats, and convenient shuttle service to the stadium. I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and give them a well...
Read moreGood for drinking at and terrible to get sit down service. Used to be a go to spot until I went out with my GFS friends for her birthday and decided to come here for a quick bite to eat. The hostess lacked any emotion and seemed like she didn't want to be there. Our "server" seemed drunk or didn't want to be our server. When we arrived and ordered there were maybe 2 other small tables sitting down. People came and went and got their food, after 45 mins of placing our order someone from the kitchen came and gave us cheese curds for the wait because the kitchen got backed up. How does the kitchen get backed up when we placed our order 20 mins before these other tables and they got their food already? Oh well. Our server never came to clear drinks, fill water, or apologize for any wait or ask for other drinks. He did keep on waiting on his other tables though instead of us. Finally our food came from the other guy (not our waiter) and was luke warm an hour after ordering. Again, had to flag down our waiter to get our check 20 mins after finishing our food, waited another 15 for him to pick up our tab which he didn't, we had to walk it up to him. 2+ hours later for mediocre food and horrid service and an all around awful time. Damn shame too when the downtown location...
