When I was in college back in the 1970s I worked for a well drilling crew one summer between semesters. We were all over SE AR and NE LA. But we were out in the boonies.
We were drilling irrigation wells on farms. Come lunch, or even supper time we had to settle for what we could find. Them boys drug me into some places that would laugh at penicillin. We went into places I wouldn't have gone in with a hazmat suite on my own, much less to eat.
But I soon learned that the best food in all of the Lord's creation is found at these places. Those million dollar chefs you see on TV? You'd scrape the best they've got onto the ground to make room on your plate for food at most of these little places.
But the best food that has ever been or ever will be cooked was along some two lane highway in NE LA. It was a beat up old streamline trailer with a wood frame structure covered with a tin roof and screen around the sides. There were wood picnic tables inside where diners partook. No heat or AC.
He brought the best BBQ God has ever allowed to exist out to us on aluminum foil with plastic utensils. Forty years on, I still have wet dream fantasies about that BBQ.
The above story comes to mind because I finally made the stop today. Three for four time a year my wife and I have to go to Dr. Appointments in Shreveport LA. We pass by this little BBQ place on almost every trip and for years I've been saying I was going to stop there. Well, today we did.
It's at 101 Common St heading toward downtown Shreveport from Texarkana. If you are ever within a hundred miles of this place, do yourself a favor and stop by.
ETA: I warmed up a can of Bush's Best original baked beans. There's a good tea spoon of bacon grease in there along with salt and pepper.

Read moreI would like to start this review by saying I’m sure that the owner used to be an amazing business owner and cook back in the day, but unfortunately all good things must eventually come to an end. I pass this place frequently as it is close to my university, I never notice any cars out front and honestly thought it was a shut down place until I noticed an older gentleman chopping wood and an “open” sign lit up in the window one day. I decided to go inside and was met with a cluttered and disarrayed living room with an older gentleman sitting inside watching television. I cannot, with integrity, label this place as a restaurant. I ordered anyways because I have a bad habit of not knowing when/how to walk away. I was told to wait in my car and he would bring it out to me. That’s when I began reading review, there is a photo on here of what the place looks like inside that is pretty accurate, just a little more cluttered now. I made the decision not to eat the food after reading the reviews, seeing the inside of the place, and smelling the smell of the plate. It smelled… vinegary and just old and did not look appetizing. I believe that this place is owned by an older gentleman with a love for BBQ and cooking, and unfortunately he is simply well past his prime. Family needs to intervene and tell him to close down before he ends up with a lawsuit, and the health department should have truly shut this place down years ago. It is truly an unfortunate situation for the owner as well as anyone who spends money there, let alone those brave enough to...
Read moreZERO STARS!! There are soooo many different kinds of bugs everywhere. Thanks to all the reviews, I told the man I would have to try it inside the dirty buggy place. I couldn't put it in my mouth. It was hard, burnt, dried up ribs, covered in some kind of sauce from a bottle. I will be reporting this place to the Department of Health. There is no way this should be open for any kind of service. Because today is the 4th of July, I thought it would have been crowded & it's'open til 10p. He has a help wanted sign on the door.... He needs a lot more than help it needs to be double scrubbed inside & out. He cursed me out when I asked for my money back. Where is his...
