John's Seafood — Restaurant in Shreveport

I'm from MN and was in the neighborhood picking up cajun delicacies to bring home as they're not available to me locally.

I love fried oysters! I saw John's sign and the truck just magically pulled into the lot. I order the 6 oyster basket than came with fries. I hit the whole basket with a bit of the house-made hot sauce and WOW!

These oysters were big and encased in a thin crispy crust that did not obscure the eating of a small amount of pure ocean. The texture jelly-like and smooth but with no tooth resistance at all. Among the best I've ever had! I wish I had been hungrier so as to try the fish and shrimp too.

I went to the much bally-hooed Herby K's for dinner later on and wish I would have come back here instead...

So, based on reviews, I thought I'd try this out. They take cash only. I'm not sure if it was due to the credit card machine down, but that's what the sign said 'Cash only'. I had to leave and come back with money. The lady with the braids in her hair did not seem as welcoming with me as she was with other customers. I don't know. But I had called in my order and got exactly what I had asked. It did NOT come come with type of special tartar sauce. I was just given the basic, some ketchup and regular tartar. Fries were not seasoned. Catfish was on point, and the shrimp was okay.

However, I was not as impressed. This mimics Mary's Chicken and Seafood, and maybe even the other John's Seafood on Linwood avenue. I was wanting something that was very set apart from all the rest of the seafood stores. Not saying it was good, but it wasn't...

Ok so this weekend I came to Shreveport and stopped by John's Seafood on Jewella Ave to get some fish bcuz I have a severe allergy to shellfish so I'm not sure why I was having an allergic reaction because I ordered fish, so being that I'm full of hives and scratchy throat only could be caused by shellfish......so my question to John's seafood: are you guys frying the fish and shrimp in the same grease? You do know that you can cause ppl with shellfish allergies to go into anaphylactic shock and DIE❗🥺 . You guys are playing with people's health and that's not right. But don't worry I won't spend another dime there because my health and life is more important...
