Wow! If I could give a negative amount of stars there would be many. My husband and I happened to be in Red Bank for the day and looked up on-line for an Italian Bakery in the area. We found LaRosa’s Italian bakery close by. We went in and found a young woman working the counter alone and a man taking a specialty cake order. We ordered a lobster tail, four large Cannoli and two Sfogliatella. We paid and the young woman handed us two boxes and moved on to another customer. We put the boxes in a cooler that I keep in my car for summer food shopping. We drove just over an hour (directly home) to get home. When we got home we put the two boxes in the refrigerator. Later that evening when we opened the boxes we found that in one box was the lobster tail and it was fine. We opened the second box only to find 12 miniature cannoli six plain and six chocolate. Obviously not our order. We do not eat chocolate cannoli and the plain shells were soft and the cream was dried out and not edible. My husband called the store, which had closed for the evening. The next morning he called and spoke to Cassie who said he was lucky because he got the better deal because the mini pastries were $20 and more expensive than what he ordered. She was rude and argumentative. He asked for the owner and was told he wouldn’t be in for a couple of days. She would speak to him upon his return and call us back. When she called she held to her guns that even though it wasn’t what we ordered we got our monies worth (NOT) and they would not be doing anything to compensate us. She forced his hand… next call American Express to file a dispute. Steer clear of this mediocre at best bakery and the extremely rude and inept staff. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. Sono ignoranti, di basso ceto, misera scusa per...
Read moreI’ve driven by this pastry shop every morning to work and have never bothered to take a look inside.
Sadly, I should’ve done this a long time ago because I have finally discovered a pastry shop that can actually make a dessert pie worth eating.
After a day of Christmas Tree shopping, my wife and I had to pick up my daughter at work and she saw the bakery and said we should treat ourself after picking up our daughter. I agreed knowing here’s my chance to see what this pastry shop is about.
We ended up buying about a pound and a half of Italian cookies, rum balls, an elephant ear, a black and white cookie and a blueberry pie.
This place by the way sells artisanal semolina baked bread so I will definitely be back. The elephant ear, a classic favorite of mine was the best one I’ve ever had. Not even Costco can compare to this perfection.
The blueberry pie tastes like homemade. Perfect flaky buttery crust and the filling wasn’t too sweet and maintained its structure when cut.
Not many people realize that a perfect pie is when the filling doesn’t spill out when sliced and the crust is flaky and not mushy commonly found everywhere from ShopRite to Elisa Bakery in Lakewood to Costco to Wegmans and even overpriced...
Read moreUpdate: years later, and I or my family comes here every time to pick up a bunch of lobster tails & cannolis for me. Legendary bakery.
Been getting most of our Italian pastries from La Rosa's for decades, but I figured I should finally leave a review.
Very good Italian bakery with stuff ranging from breads, to meat breads, to Italian pastries (especially cannolis and lobster tails/bear claws), to a really wide variety of cakes. They're a favorite amongst locals who need their fix of Italian desserts, but want to go above and beyond what you find at a supermarket. They take their work very seriously and make sure that every customer is satisfied- they even sat down at a table with us and worked out the details of my graduation cake! I have to add that their cakes (like my own cake) are fantastic- they are very reasonably priced compared to what you'd get for most custom-baked cakes in the area, and they offer unique fillings like cannoli cream. They take serious pride in their work and I really recommend them as someone who's lived in Central Jersey/eaten Italian desserts for his entire life.
Oh, and their cannoli chips + cream are really really good. Great for taking to the beach if you have a cooler to put...
