Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Signal Hill

Our waitress was very friendly, but from the very beginning, Service kind of went down hill. I ordered a Virgin Strawberry Margarita, my son ordered a sugar free Red Bull, my daughter some fancy drink with liquor. All drinks were brought except for my son's Red Bull. I have ordered many V strawberry Margaritas at other places and never had a problem. Drinks that came one was pink and other was a lime(like limeade) well I thought the pink one was mine because strawberry is pink. Found out that wasn't mine because it had liquor in it and told them. That's when I was told it was my daughter's drink. Then I told her my drink was a V strawberry Margarita, she said they could add the strawberry. I said no because the sip seemed okay. I tried drinking it and with the salt rim just made it taste yucky. I asked to switch it and wasn't a problem. Now the ones I get are usually a slushy sweet drink. This was iced and salty/sour. Also when it was time to pay the drink that was on the tab said cherry lime margarita. Definitely different than what I ordered. For my daughter's drink she asked what was in there because it should off had some kind of banana creme and no taste of banana. When she asked what was in the drink the waitress didn't know. Still no red bull. We had to ask for it close to 40 min later. Time to order.... we wanted the ribs, but they had just taken it off the menu. I was very disappointed. I had to get the Riblettes. My daughter got the wings. She gave the last one to my son and it was raw getting to the center. I was looking forward to Applebee's for my birthday and first timer and I was greatly disappointed. The commercials make it look so yummy. The waggle fries and onion rings portion size was small. I got 5 different size onion rings. Oh and the ketchup bottle on the table was empty and the waitress did replace it but put it on another table. Overall it was a big letdown. I will not be...

I was in the area getting my car serviced and weighing my lunch options. In-N-Out and Chik-fil-A were on the menu, but I decided to give Applebee’s a try. I should’ve known better to come here though because the service I received was appalling.

When I walked in, the front of the restaurant was empty with no sign of the host, Edwin. He saw me waiting to get seated and continued doing what he was doing before walking over several minutes later. Although we made eye contact, he didn’t acknowledge me as I stood there. He went so far as to walk in front of me, without an excuse me or acknowledgment.

Even though I was first in line, Edwin went out of his way to ignore me and put others on the waiting list, including people sitting down! When he finally decided to put my name on the list, he acted like he couldn’t hear me or pronounce my name, before writing it down wrong because he obviously didn’t care.

I asked for a booth, which told me there would be a 10-minute wait, while he told other guests walking in later that there would be a 2-minute wait. So, I waited a while before Edwin attempted to seat me at a table when I clearly asked for a booth. When I reminded him of my request he said I’d have to wait longer because the booth was dirty. When that was finally ready Edwin just pointed and said “Ready table’!

I eventually spoke with the manager on duty, Haven and my waitress was cool. But the service I received from Edwin has left me disgusted and dissatisfied with the entire Applebee’s chain. I knew should’ve gone...

I’ve been here a few times and the one thing they are consistent with is over cooking their steaks and salmon. Overall this is a great spot for apps and drinks, but that’s about it.

Food: 5/10 I usually just come here for the apps and the 2/$25-30 deal. The apps are usually pretty good but the last time we went the wings came out cold. Our steaks came out medium, medium well and well done when we asked for medium rare on all three. They asked for two of the steaks to be redone and they came out medium and medium-well with barely any pink. I ended up not eating but my kids were able to. They did take one of the 2/$30 deals off as compensation, and I didn’t ask them to and I wasn’t expecting them to, so it was appreciated that they did so.

Service: 9/10 The server and everyone else was super nice and everyone has great work ethic. I hated even having to ask to send my food back, but the steaks were just too over cooked. They were nice about it, but when they messed up the second time and I cut the steak in half to show them, I was told that it was in fact medium rare because they checked the temperature before bringing it to the table. I didn’t want to argue because I knew the server was busy and I just told her I simply didn’t want it.

Ambiance: 10/10 Lots of seating, nice and clean environment. Typical Applebees decor and set up.
