Food was fine, but everything else about the meal was maddening.
Astonishingly bad service. I went with a group of seven people for a celebratory dinner, so we ordered a margarita pitcher and a beer pitcher. When it was brought to us, we were given 6 margarita glasses and one beer glass, and the drinks were poured for us without us asking. The margarita in the pitcher wasn't mixed properly, so five people got a virgin margarita while one person got a glass of straight tequila. When our entrees arrived, six of us either didn't get what they ordered or their order had multiple obvious errors (rice and beans without beans). The servers tried to convince one of our diners that there was carne asada on a platter that was obviously only vegetables. Fajitas were served incorrectly, and plates were piled up instead of being cleared like normal. Every time any of these problems were brought up to our servers, we got a simple "Ok" and the problem wasn't resolved until the third time we asked.
It was clear that we weren't the only people in the restaurant having this experience. We overheard two different tables complaining about problems with their meals. On top of all of this the restaurant was very hot and only seemed to have AC on one half of the establishment. This would be less of a problem if it wasn't for the fact that water appeared to be in short supply for some reason.
"Chido's" has become synonymous in my group of diners with a dissapointing and overall unpleasant meal. If a friend came to Silver Spring looking for Tex Mex food I would probably point them to the Taco Bell Cantina before I sent them to Chidos; at least there you know what you're getting yourself into. Or just save yourself the trouble and go to Mi...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI should know better. I feel like Charlie Brown when Lucy once again pulls the football away. I should know that NO restaurant around here that bills itself as Tex-Mex actually is in fact Tex-Mex (with the delightful exception of Mi Rancho). For Valentine's lunch, my husband and I went to a new place in downtown Silver Spring - Chido's Tex-Mex. Alas, there is no Tex and very little Mex about this place. Everything was exceedingly bland, and salt-free. Not a jalapeno in sight. No picante anything. The salsa that came with chips was sweet like ketchup. For an appetizer, I ordered "Chili Con Carne." Now most of you, and myself included, would expect a bowl or cup of meat, spiciness, tomatoes, and beans (although that last part can be controversial). What showed up was something like chili con queso (or just 'queso' to most folks), but with some meat and beans stirred in, and a dollop of sour cream on top, and surrounded by corn chips. Perhaps it was queso fundido. I called the waitress over and pointed out the mistake. I like queso - but I had just ordered chili, though, and that's what I wanted. Oh no. I was told this IS chili con carne, and no amount of 'no it isn't' made any difference. The manager came over and said, "This is how WE make it." But...but...but... NO. That's not how it works! I noted that one item on the menu was billed as "the most emblematic Colombian dish" and I suspect that perhaps the proprietors are South American, rather than Mexican or Tejano. Zero stars, would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow, where do I start? Viktor, the waiter didn't outstanding job of exclaining to me.The various options on the menu and had a super magnetic personality. After spending over two decades in the denver area ( an area known for its great Tex-Mex and Mexican food), Chidos, after one meal, has become my go-to for mexican food since moving back to the area. Yes, I have tried several other Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants in the area. Chidos stands head and shoulders above the rest. When I go to a Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant my go-to is the chicken burrito, and it certainly did not disappoint! The burrito was stuffed with a perfectly marinated shredded chicken topped with a great queso fundido salsa verde. The beans and cheese were spiced perfectly and the mexican rice was absolutely amazing. You could taste the fresh vegetables in it. So inconclusion: 5 star food, 5 star service, 5 star atmosphere. All in a place that's reminiscent of one of my old haunts back in Denver, a little place called Rocco's Cantina. In conclusion, I have left, though west behind me. However, I still have a great go to place for Tex-Mex food! So get yourselves down here and enjoy a great meal that won't...
