We arrived for breakfast on a Sunday morning and were seated right way. We were there early(ish) and the day after a storm, otherwise I suspect there would normally a wait on weekend mornings. (Also, as we were leaving and walking towards our vehicle a friendly regular asked about the length of a line). They have quite a few breakfast items, but I went with the classic bacon, eggs, shredded hash browns, and rye toast. While it was good, I suspect the crowds head there for the specialty items. (I do not think I saw one other person around us eating bacon and eggs). One bite of my husband's lamb and egg breakfast burrito was more evidence. It was fantastic! They also have a variety of mimosas, I chose the apple cider version and it was one of the best I've had, though I found myself missing the cinnamon sugar rim I have become accustomed too. The service was great, our server was busy but still attentive and friendly. One small issue I had was the jam. First, the strawberry jam is fantastic, like my grandmother use to make. But it is $1 for a serving of jam, which includes a bit of strawberry and a bit of blueberry. Now I only wanted strawberry and the serving was so small I would have needed four of them to have enough for my toast. Seems silly I know, but I consider jam a basic condiment of breakfast. And I have no issue paying the additional $1 for delicious strawberry jam (did I mention it was delicious?) but I expect enough to cover my 2 pieces of toast. Regardless, go and enjoy. It is a charming fun place...
Read moreWe have only been to Benny's on weekend mornings for breakfast, so this review is limited to those days. Benny's has great breakfast food at "Simsbury prices", so do not be surprised at what they charge for the mostly affluent, self-absorbed, and unsympathetic Simsbury (there is no way we will allow "affordable housing" to be built) crowd. The menu is varied, the ingredients are fresh, the service is prompt, helpful, and quite ready to meet the demands of the customers. Advice for breakfast weekends is get there as "early" as you can, because as the crowd comes in, those waiting in line are not happy and get impatient, and the noise level increases. Depending on your point of view, the worst part of the experience is the shrieking of small children, at octave and tone levels that are equivalent to the sound of fingernails on a blackboard. The parents, usually the presumed affluent stay-at-home mothers, often appear both oblivious and entitled. Of course the staff has no way of controlling this behavior, so that is not the restaurant's fault, nor is this peculiar to Benny's. This makes many of us campaign for "no kids 6 and under" type restaurants, for which we would gladly support, and pay more for, if they existed. Benny's might be quieter on weekdays when the exclusive preschools are in session, during the...

As I said, it was indeed busy, but not overly and when people arrive after & depart before we've even been served, its a problem. We DID ask where the manager was & got nowhere.
EDIT: TRIP #2 WAS HORRIBLE.
Took the whole family for breakfast on Memorial Day, around 11:15. The restaurant was busy, but it's not a huge restaurant, so no big deal, right? Wrong. Our server took our order @ 11:40. At noon, we still had no food. We saw people who had arrived after us being served ahead of us. 10 minutes later, she came to apologize that we'd been waiting for 30 minutes & our ticket "was up next." We continued to watch others get served & one table that came in after us had already finished eating, paid & were leaving. At 12:20, 40 minutes after order in, server came back, telling us we were "the next ticket" (still). No manager came to speak with us & we simply left, without eating, more than an hour after our arrival. Very disappointing after our initial fantastic experience a month ago.
VISIT #1 Loved it. Took my daughter there for breakfast & can't wait to return. Great service, tasty food,...
