Minervas Food & Cocktails — Restaurant in Sioux City

For the food, drinks and mainly service, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

We arrived at the restaurant and were given a table. We liked the look of booths so we asked the waitress if she could move us, she said she will check. She gets back to us and says that the booths we see empty don't have a server, so that won't be possible. My husband asked if she could serve us at those booths, she said she will check with the manager and went away to check. Before she got back to us, we see the hostess is seating people at a booth we were told didn't have any server. However, once the booth behind us was cleared, we were sat there and the waitress was the same. Once we were sat, we ordered drinks and food. I ordered a mojito and what I got wasn't a mojito (pictured).

For food, I ordered Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo pasta with Caesar salad (pictured). The salad they call caesar had cherry tomatoes, caramelized onions at the bottom and no croutons. I let the waitress know and she made me aware that it's their caesar salad. Not impressed with that answer I ask her to take it away as that isn't a caesar salad. The Manager comes over and says he'll make a caesar salad and he does that, brings it over and I was happy. We also saw other tables being served bread and olive oil after they were seated, we were not asked, offered or given any.

The pasta I ordered was what I expected and was good. Throughout the evening, our waitress did not seem happy with us, maybe because we asked to move, however I am not sure. My husband and I don't get to see each other that often so date nights mean a lot to us, it was such a shame that the waitresses attitude put a dampner on...

We have been coming to the restaurant off and on for many years. We’d like to eat here on a special event, birthday or just a treat ourselves. We were sited right away and it has a very nice patio. The waitress was ok .. seemed like we imposing or she was busy doing something. We did not come at a busy time so we did not know what was up not saying that she did not do her job but she was just curt….did not make the food taste better.

The appetizers were good, except the spinach dip with half the amount that it used to be which in fine but if you like it order 2 because there is not enough to share. Now, a few people in our party ordered burgers which they said they were good but the buns were old and dry. We ordered the salmon and walleye. The walleye was full of bones and kind of like shoe leather.. really everything on the plates was overcook or super microwaved and not fresh ingredients at all like there should be fresh vegetables this time of year. I was really disappointment and it was just gross!! Especially at 28 dollars a plate… it was like something I would expect at a one star restaurant. Everything on my plate tasted like it was microwaved or dried out with no favor. We did not to make a fuss at the time because we were trying to have a pleasant experience with our family. After seeing some Facebook posts about their change of menu, I decided it would be fun to check it out for my birthday dinner. Here we're the positives: the hostess was very nice, my family and I were all seated right away (which was great because there were 7 of us plus 2 toddlers), the restaurant was clean, and a manager and supervisor came to talk to us just to see how things were going (this was before we got our food.) Also, I particularly enjoyed my entree (Honey Almond Chicken pasta) and our appetizers.

Here are the cons: I seemed to be the only one who truly enjoyed my meal. My husband and sister-in-law both ordered the Cajun linguine, and while they said it was good, it didn't have a Cajun flavor/seasoning they expected. My brother ordered one of the pizzas and he said it wasn't anything special. And everyone else said their food was just okay. I don't know if it was just a bad night or if they haven't quite got the menu change down, but I was disappointed that no one else was pleased with their meals. Also, it took an incredibly long time to get our food after ordering. Again, I'm guessing this has to do with adjusting to the new menu.

I am leaving this review in hopes that they see this and take some of the criticism to heart in order to improve their dishes. It's one of the only restaurants on this side of town and would hate to...
