It has been years since we've visited HuHot, and our decision was reinforced when we tried again. First and foremost, the place is dirty and outdated. The ladles and tongs for the food were sticky and gross - you had to stand awkwardly in line with dirty hands, as there were no napkins to wipe the grime away while you waited. The booths had dirty seats that we had the luxury of cleaning ourselves before sitting. The light bulbs have bright LED lights in some, and other warm amber lights in other places, above the customer's heads, causing headaches if you were unlucky enough to end up at an LED table like us. Back in line to put our bowls together, the lack of readable, correct, or existing labels caused you to play russian roulette with sauces. Some of the available greens were brown and wilted. The cooks made it known they did not want to be there, including getting an attitude when someone asked for the toppings station to be refilled, slammed the storage containers of toppings on the counter, and proceeded to stick dirty tongs in them for us to use, instead of just refilling the toppings and food-safety-consciously putting the rest back in storage. The food itself was undercooked... so much that I felt uncomfortable eating the just barely raw-centered meat and raw mushrooms. The next time I went up, I asked for them to cook mine longer, which resulted in dirty looks and grunts. After 4 people went ahead of me while I waited, the cook finally gave me my food, which was now overcooked and burnt - my fault for asking it to be cooked longer, I suppose.
Overall, HuHot is an overpriced, outdated, vegas-style wanna be white-washed Mongolian grill that sold...
Read moreI love it. Can't get enough. My stacking game is top notch.
You don't need as many noodles as you think, it's a trick. You can't skip them, they create the space for your sauces at the bottom of the bowl. Stack the meat as high as you can on one side of the bowl, not flat covering all the noodles. A master doesn't reveal all his secrets, but if I pulled this with 2 bowls I would feel guilty. Since I use 1 bowl like they ask, I feel like a champion as I watch them dump it onto the grill... I smile as they wonder how all of that was in one bowl. Togo bowls, I enjoy HuHot for 3 days.. I feel guilty so I don't do it often and I have never really tried to stack one too high. Cheating... Don't let them splash water on your meal. It washes the flavor off. Make. Sure you have plenty of sauce. Don't let them wipe the black char from their utensils on your plate. Sauces? I follow the sweet and sour.... kinda. Scaled all the way up for a perfectly stacked bowl you need quite a bit;
2 teriyaki 4 sweet n sour 1 kung pow wow 1 Lemon juice 1 ginger broth 1 sesame oil
I really...
Read moreWe were at the HuHot on 10th. I really struggle with this review. The restaurant itself is quite clean. Staff could be seen wiping tables & food areas down, floors were kept clean. The grill area was clean, not even food on the counter, the floor on the outside of the grill and someone was sweeping the floor in the grill area. The cooks " grill masters" were regularly cleaning the grill off. Our service was subpar. We had to ask for silverware, water and rice AFTER we got our food. We had to ask again for the appetizer. When we got our crab ragoons, we literally poured about a teaspoon of oil out of each one. I actually turned them out on a napkin to drain. The food was good but I wonder if the grill was hot enough. My food was warm but necessarily hot. I have a food allergy so I do really really appreciate the guys cleaning the grill and the patrons patience and respect. Would I eat at this HuHot again, I guess. I believe in giving second chances. However, the HuHot on 41st ranks #1 for me as far as...
