Horrible, horrible dinning experience!!!!! I normally don't write reviews, however; I have to warn others about this place. Stopped by for lunch with my 82 year old mother today. She had trouble ordering being 82 and our plump red haired server got very annoyed. Mom is diabetic and asked for some bread because her blood sugar was getting low. The server said her bread would come with her salad. Mom asked once again for a small basket of bread first. The server responded she was getting ready to make her salad and would bring the bread with the salad. She then turned and walked off shaking her head and rolling her eyes as she walked around the corner. Wow!!! I was really upset but mom would not let me say anything. The food came out and I ordered a Italian sausage sub with peppers. The sub bread was not thick enough to stand up to the grease from the sausage and cheese and the entire thing turned into goo in my hands. The bell peppers were not sliced and sautéed but roasted in huge pieces and placed on top of a split Italian sausage and covered with cheese. I had to pick out most of the peppers just to make it edible. I have had Italian sausage from NYC to Food Lion and their sausage was worse than any I have ever eaten. I ordered a side of fries and they brought me a bowl of ketchup packages to go with my fries. Really? You can't afford to by a real bottle of ketchup. I tasted mom's egg plant parmesan and it tasted burnt. I scraped away the sauce to see the black charred breadcrumbs on the outside of the eggplant. The waitress brought us our check and then proceeded to keep looking around the corner impatiently to see if we were ready to pay. I asked for a refill on the ice tea and she came with an ice tea pitcher with no ice and filled up my glass with warm ice tea and no ice in the glass. Smithfield is a small town with very few dinning options. I believe the other reviews were probably made out of ignorance because anyone that has had decent Italian at any other restaurant in Hampton Roads or anywhere else for that matter would understand how bad this place is. ...
Read morePosted this for my friend Karen Morrison:" I just spoke to the manager of Anna's in Smithfield to make him aware of my/our dining experience yesterday. No manager was on duty and no one there had authority to mitigate my issues. First, all 10 meals were delivered after our salads. After watching at least 2 baskets of bread delivered to the party in the back room, we realized that no bread was served. The dining room was not full. I ordered the Special Four Cheese ravioli. When my plate was served, I was in disbelief. A whole dinner plate with '5' raviolis with a piece of cheese connecting them with a tomato sauce slathered on top. And it was barely above room temperature. My dinner salad and 5 raviolis was $14.00! To the surprise of my table mates as well. Not to worry, I was sure the manager would make some adjustment. Oh,no! That's the way they have always been making it. It is, after all, a special pasta made with four cheeses! And, I did have an opportunity to question the waitress before I made my selection. (Like who would think to ask how many came for the meal or meal-ette in this case.) He stated again that it was a 'special' pasta and he was sure that it was appropriately priced. Now, I'm not looking to eat there free, but he could have offered to comp 1/2 a meal in the future. Crickets! Nada! I won't darken his door again and I hope y'all don't either. And another thing. Waitress served the coffee without bringing or asking if diners wanted cream, then another waitress brought it out. Rant...
Read moreBeen eating here weekly for a couple of years. Food is ok at best but it is convenient because of the location. The food has never been great and sometimes it's just not good. The food is not why I'm writing this post. A cashier and I had a minor disagreement which I really didn't care about and told him to go ahead and charge me for whatever. I guess the owner and his wife heard this as they both went out of there way to confront me and argue with me over something I thought was resolved with the cashier. After several minutes of telling both of them to "charge me and let me have my food" it finally happened. They almost seemed disappointed they didn't get more of a rise out of me. It was only when I told the owner that I eat here 3-4 times a week that he took a step back realizing he was going to lose some business. I drove away kind of shocked. But, I won't be going back. The food is nowhere near good enough. There is an annas in every town. This one is mediocre at best. Food is always greasy, soggy and sometimes inedible. Goodluck. Yall are going to need it. Lots of people share my same opinion...
