Wow, if I could give this place zero stars and post, I would.
I'll also preface this review with the fact that MY HUSBAND COOKS FOR A LIVING. So we love to find local food shops to support and frequent (support local business! Just not THIS one). Google had good ratings here, so we figured we would try it!
We ordered the chicken parm entree, chicken alfredo, and a slice of pepperoni for pickup - standard dishes you can't really go wrong with, right? My husband picked it up quickly so it would still be hot and...wow. The alfredo was a gluey, grey mess - not creamy, or even close to white sauce. GREY. The "chicken" on the chicken parm was a cheese-slice-thin piece of ground chicken mushier than the noodles it covered, and the container was filled to the brim with rubbery half-melted mozzerella. The pizza was very obviously pre-made, but had weird clumps of rubbery cheese on top like the parm - I'm assuming added later when the slice is reheated? I have no clue, but it was NOT appetizing. It reminded me of a still-frozen-in-the-middle Tostinos pizza - yuck. We took a single look at the pasta, (unfortunately for us) took one bite of pizza, and decided to skip dinner tonight! So? Tossed the food out, naturally.
Now, ok, fine. Sometimes dishes are bad. But I called Angelos and asked to speak with a manager to (nicely!) ask for a refund. I explained to the little girl who said she was a manager that the food was not good and we couldn't eat it. Well, she said she remembered our order and it looked fine to her. She asked if we still had the food, and I told her that no, we threw it out. She responded with "Well if you've thrown it away, there's nothing I can do". I told her we still had the food in the containers (in the trash!) and we'd be HAPPY to take it back - for a refund! Of course she said no. She offered us 10% off the next time we came in, and I said we wouldn't be coming back, which was also why I was asking for a refund (rather than the equivalent of a coupon). Her response? Rudely yelling into the phone "OK WELL HAVE A NICE DAY!" After which she promptly HUNG UP on me.
What a waste of $30.
Please - go elsewhere. The people were rude, the food was horrible to look at (and scary tasting, to say the least) and it is NOT worth trying. We won't be going anywhere...
Read moreUpdate. I'm changing this review again they're open. And should be careful about how fresh their food is. But essentially great food just too early and lazy all although worth a try, don't miss you. Might like it more than Giorgios or salvos which are excellent choices if you don't want to take a chance. But please try Angela's it's great if they're open and fresh Angelo's Pizza used to be one of the best in Nashville. Although also one of the most frustrating that it was frequently closed and understaffed. It seems like the management really didn't care about increasing business as much as sitting on their hands. Not to say they didn't make a good pizza, especially the New York pizza which I find worth the drive only to be disappointed several times to see them closed early or have them not take phone calls. If I plan to head so frustrate me no more, I'll just go to some of the awesome pizza places we already have in Smyrna like Salvos or Giorgios which has come on to be a very good place for the best simple pie in town. I used to drive past those places very infrequently. And look who shows up. Angelo's shows up right down the block, Really? One of the most competitive pizza markets in Nashville Metro region to, I guess, restart their business after they've moved on from their old location. I thought they'd be gone forever as they probably should have been; seeing as they didn't really care too much. Now they've tried to open the new storefront;and it's been sitting there. I figured by now it'd be open as it is showing to be their current address and is poorly updated in some places on the internet to say that it is open and other places to say that is not or maybe. Ha. Some more progress really have been made but typical Angelo's pizza, it's in its natural state closed and not serving pizza. You guys are not going to like it when you open your doors and find out that your pizzas are going to have to compete against some excellent...
Read moreI have been on a quest to find the best pizza in Nashville. Every week I enter a restaurant that serves pizza and simply order a cheese pizza. My thinking is that if they can make a BOMB cheese pizza then they have good pizza.
Angelo's does not disappoint and is definitely a "hole in the wall" "diamond in the rough" establishment that serves really good pizza. In my findings it has been THE BEST pizza I've found in Nashville for $15.99.
Angelo's gives you a sense of what once was upon entering their establishment. Like back in their heyday they use to slay pizzas all day long and have a full dining room/lobby. Of course its Covid season, but I can't help but sense that. The place is kinda dirty looking. Not In the sense that they're making pizza in a dirty kitchen, but I could probably drag my finger over something and find dust or finger prints from 1999.
The pizza itself was cooked to perfection by a master craftsman that has honed in his skill from years serving others pizza. The slices were cut big and floppy, New York style just the way I like it. It think it's either the sauce or maybe the cheese but each time I've had the perfect amount of grease. The sauce is real tangy and the cheese tastes of good quality mozzarella.
I've gone here twice In the past month and Angelo's has yet to let me down. The guy behind the counter even told me he's been eating the same pizza since he was 12 and loves it.
I love this place and will continue being a loyal...
