1st time visiting this location. Normally I love steak n shake. This time not so much. Went in to eat expecting to have a waitress and restaurant experience to find out that's not what they do here you had to stand at the counter to decide what you want. The entire reason I didn't go through drive through was because I wasnt ready to order yet. Brought in 4 kids to find out they didnt even have kids meals? Really? So I ordered them all burger meals that apparently didnt come with drinks so I had to order those separately. When trying to order for myself I found out they dont have the full menu, so no garlic sliders for me. I got the chilli cheese hot dog with my toppings on the side. The cashier seemed annoyed that I was having such a difficult time navigating their menu. In my defense I was expecting an actual steak n shake. Sat down to eat opened my little cup of onions to find what looked like someones pubic hair. Got it replaced. Hot dog tasted very salty the bun was burnt and covered in grease. Pretty gross. not 1 child ate the whole burger. Complaints of bones in their meat. And them being "gross". The fries were good. Also while dining one of the workers was loudly talking across the restaurant to someone else about personal things and airpods. Every worker seemed rude and disinterested in the customers, with the exception of one brunette girl who seemed polite. When they were tidying up the dining room my kids offered to help. Instead of politely declining they handed them both brooms and dust pans and relaxed as my kids swept the whole dining room for them, then proceeded to give them rags to wipe down the tables. My kids did their jobs, what a joke. Then they just gave my kids cookies without my permission for being helpers. My kids with an extensive allergy list, might I add. Didn't even bother to run it by me. So naturally after leaving I then had to be the bad guy and take the cookies away, 1 because they didnt eat their food and 2 because I had no idea what the ingredients were. This place was a nightmare. Dont...
Read morePoor, poor management. Some kids in there are really trying, but others are clueless. Others are lucky to get a paycheck. We drove through at 9:23 pm tonight, Sunday, only to be told the DT was closed. When asked what time they close, the response was "I'm pretty sure 9". Pretty sure? Can you check?
So we decided to go in, only to find the lobby doors were locked. Signs were posted that indicated open until 10pm. A customer let me in, after I knocked (seeing people in there eating, etc.) I went to the counter, and proceeded to order. The girl at the counter was nice, but said they had closed the lobby because it had "gotten crazy". Then some kid named Danny comes up and asks how I got in; I told him. He told me "try not to do that again next time." WHAT? I'm the reason you're getting paid! Anyway, needless to say, this was my first and last visit to this location. Hey, Danny... there will be NO NEXT TIME.
Steak and Shake Corporate: Visit this place often, and at random times. Seems it's being managed very poorly. If not drastically changed, this location will be out of business within the calendar year. It's that bad.
We took our food, paid for it, and ended up going to BK. We felt maybe our food was not safe to eat- too many horror stories of spit in food. Of course, that could just be in our mind, but the way this experience went, I'd not put it past some of the cooks.
Stay away, until and unless you see a sign that reads: UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT or NEW OWNERSHIP. I don't generally write reviews, but this warranted my thoughts while they were...
Read moreWe dined in at the Steak ‘n Shake in Smyrna a month ago with our three children. Our kids have been anxiously waiting for it to reopen (COVID) because it’s one of their favorite places to stop. The workers were very rude. All of our food was thrown in a sack- we had to request the kids toys (a car kit) so they could have something to play with while we waited. The worker tried to give us ripped ones, and when my husband asked for ones they weren’t ripped, she said she’d have to go find those in the back and then stared at us until we said ‘if you could we’d appreciate it.’ When I unfolded all of my kids burgers, there was a hair dead center of my daughters burger. I walked it up the the counter and they begrudgingly replaced it. The manager called back that afternoon after I left a complaint on the company’s website, and said they’d like to have us back again for a free meal. We went in today, and the manager working said she had no idea what I was talking about. She said she’d honor it, but it was clear she didn’t feel for any reason it was a real thing. This Steak ‘n Shake not only has cleanliness issues but managerial issues. We will not dine...
