Yamato Steak House of Japan — Restaurant in Somerset Township

We normally like it at Yamato, which is why I’m giving it two and not one. The people are usually pretty friendly and the food is good. After it had been closed through all the covid-19 quarantine we were excited to get takeout again. When I walked in to pick it up I was disgusted at the amount of dirt, dust and grime I could see on the floors from the door into the host area and all the way back. Seriously, if ever there was a time to deep clean it should be now, right?!? By the time we got home the bento dinner I ordered had a warm California roll in it. They have always used plastic containers for bento dinners, but last night it was Styrofoam causing it too heat more and become more moist. I threw out the California roll completely. I’ve never had any issues with them when ordering Take-out previously, but after last night I don’t think I’ll go back unless they do a deep clean of their restaurant and go back to their old take out containers. Seriously, I should not be able to see dust, hair, and everything else on the floor when I walk in. If that’s what they show to customers what’s it like in the kitchen where customers can’t go? I don’t even want to...

It was my first time going here. We are not from the area and decided to try Yamato based on reviews from other guests. We had a pleasant, relaxing experience. The atmosphere was nice. The wait staff were all very friendly. Everyone was following covid-19 regulations. The food was very delicious. We ordered the green dragon roll and Imperial hibachi combo for my husband and I. 3 of our children ordered the shrimp child plate. Our eldest ordered a chicken and steak hibachi combo. The food was excellent. It was cooked perfectly. The portions were good and the price was affordable. The only bad thing I have to say is that we almost decided not to go here when we pulled up to the restaurant. The front window and door were very dirty with fingerprints and dirt. It made us think that the inside would be dirty too. I am glad we decided to give it a try because it was not dirty at all on the inside! You get a full visual of the kitchen and can see them preparing ALL of the food. Overall, our experience was great and we will make the trip to visit here again...

Yamato Japanese restaurant in Somerset, PA was EXCELLENT! I rarely write reviews so I wanted to make sure I give praise when it’s due. The prices were surprisingly low, especially for quality of the food. They have hibachi combos without the typical tourist show you find at other places. Every single ingredient I had was of the highest quality. The chicken and shrimp hibachi was phenomenal. The asparagus was some of the best I’ve ever had. My wife said the avocado was exceptionally good too. It’s BYOB so we went next door to Giant Eagle and brought some wine. The servers were friendly and knew the menu well and the chefs brought our food with very little wait times.
