J-Petal — Restaurant in Somerset

The boba is quite good, though more sizes would be nice (the only size it comes in here would be a small at any other boba place I've been to.) The ice cream is great and I can't speak highly enough of the customizable poke bowls. The food is made to order, fresh, and tasty.

Prices are fair and the service is good.

The endless possibilities for ice cream toppings are great, lots of options for the adventurous and eclectic. Although, I stuck with the classics, mango ice cream rolls with fresh mango and sweetened condensed milk. YUM. The fruit toppings are FRESH too, not frozen mush.

My criticism and the reason I took a star off is that all the savory food options we have tried so far are a lot sweeter than we expected, like the teriyaki chicken is almost too sweet. I had a similar experience with my spicy poke bowl, it was really tasty but it desperately needed soy sauce or vinegar to offset the sweet sauce and the sweet rice. Even spicy mayo and tobiko disappeared into the sweetness. If they had condiments out or readily available I wouldn't even mention it, but you have to ask for it and sometimes they don't have any.

And a minor nitpicky thing about the burritos, they should just call them wraps, my poor fiance is from the south and he was so confused when he ordered a chicken burrito expecting a chicken burrito like you'd get anywhere else and got 2 pieces of (very sweet) teriyaki chicken, sweet rice, and lettuce, in a little tortilla. 😅 poor guy, he ate it but he was still very...

Edit Oct 30, 2025. They have the savory crepes!!!! They were not sure who I spoke with on the phone, back in May, but I saw someone post a review and found out they were still serving them. I just picked a few up, so they legit have them :) Edit May 28, 2025. I took a star off because they no longer serve savory crepes, which was why I went there, regularly. The bowl combinations aren’t as good as the crepes in my opinion. I am really saddened by this as my health doesn’t allow me to eat out at most places to begin with.

Everytime I'm in the area I stop here. GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS GALORE! I really enjoy something cakey and these Crepes hit the spot. The fruit is very fresh and so are the vegetables in the lunch crepes. It's like a rolled up sandwich but so much better than any sandwich. It's light and airy but after one crepe I am definitely full. The crepes are very large and I would split a dessert crepe. The cardboard that holds the crepes doesn't unwrap as easily as I'd like but I'm glad it's perforated.
