Had a good time here. Good FOH, made us felt welcome. Paid about $180 with tip. Solid 3 star experience. Decently priced for what they offer. Something was always missing or overdone for each dish except for the skirt steak and the sunchoke doughnuts. Lots of inspirations taken from fine dining spots but executed mediocre; flavors either didn’t really work together or were overwhelming. For example, the chocolate pudding dessert w/ mochi bread could have tasted better with hints of orange zest instead of chunks of odd, chewy bites that were citrusy. The grilled turnips were undercooked & could have used bit more seasoning. The countneck clams were good but they over seasoned with aged soy sauce, making it too salty to enjoy. I would revisit but refrain from ordering variety. I recommend getting a glass of wine with two orders of their skirt steak w/ scallions. Great combination, likely inspired by Korean BBQ combo. Skip the dessert & instead get a glass of whatever añejo they are offering for the night.

Cozy ambiance pairs well with the warm service and creative food. I had a great meal tonight. Raw scallops- A dish full on texture. Fresh scallops came topped with bacon and figs. The figs added a subtle and sweetness that pair well with the scallops sweetness and added a nice chewy texture The bacon added a nice smokiness and a nice crunch. Delicious! 5/5 Beef tartare- This was slightly cooked. It still has the same texture of the bar beef and the dish being warm was great for Winter. The dish was tasty which came with brioche roll with some garlic butter. Tasty. 4/5 Venison Very tasty and perfectly cooked. Very light gaminess. And came with a nice beef au jus sauce 4/5 Sweet potatoes roasted white sweet potato chamomile, macadamia, pomegranate. Sweet and savory. This is like a pre dessert side 4.5/5 maple walnut tart | sumac yogurt mousse, rye pie crust. This was good. Nothing stood out here, but it was enjoying. 3.5

My first reaction upon entering spoke "I'm so fancy, you already know". This place looks fancy. Took a seat at the bar which is also quite fancy. They have these circular cut outs on the bar that have lights in them, illuminating drink you place near them.

I was only there for drinks (though the food menu does look pretty good). The beer selection was small but very interesting, I didn't get a beer but would suggest it for the beer lover. Started with a cocktail which was distinctly meh, too much grapefruit not enough rum tastes.

The real fun began when we ordered wine. Now i know very little about wine and the bartender was amazingly friendly and helpful. She suggested a few ideas, explained how the grapes for the wine were grown and what she liked about each wine. She also let us sample wines to compare and decide what we wanted. Maybe this is standard for wine bars (Like I said, I am a wine rookie) but it was a lot of fun and got to taste some nice wines.

The bartender explained that the owner was a fan of "old world" wines. These wines tend to be grown in colder climates and that means they aren't as "big fruity" wines. So if you are a connoisseur who knows they want fruity wines... maybe spoke isn't the place for you?? That being said, I'm sure they would hook it up.

Overall I highly recommend Spoke. It's pricier but I think that's to be expected. Stick to wine (or maybe a solid beer) as other places will do cocktails...

I went on a first date here. We met on the dating apps and he suggested the location and I was excited to try it out!! Overall I thought the date went really well. Oh! The food and drinks we absolutely delicious too. The lovely staff helped guide us with drink decisions and the small plates were perfect for sharing. I LOVE trying a variety of options at restaurants and fall head over heals when my dates offers to share their plate. 🥰

After dinner we went on a nice walk down the Somerville walkway. The weather was perfect and our conversation flowed easily. We quickly learned about each others interests and found many similarities. The night was perfect and looking back I wish I had made some move. Reached out for his hand, or gone in for a kiss. Something. I regret not making a move, but I also assumed I’d have more time. Funny how these things work out. Once we parted and went our separate ways I knew immediately that I wanted to learn more about him and I probably texted him prematurely but I couldn’t wait for our next date together. Sadly the next date never came. When I heard back from him the following days he informed me that it was indeed a lovely evening, but that he is just too burnt out of dating at the moment and is going to focus on other aspects of his life.

Spoke Wine Bar is fantastic and I highly recommend it, dating apps and first dates however, I definitely don’t...

i’d say a hidden gem but its not really hidden so just a gem. Cozy wine bar with delicious, inventive food. Dishes that are more than just wine bar snacks or tapas portion plates. The staff were very kind, attentive and knowledgeable. My husband is dairy free and there were plenty of options for him. The place was buzzing even at the early hour of 5:30. I only wish we had come sooner because we’ve been missing out on some tasty food and wine. The cocktail list was tempting and I love a good cocktail but I felt that I had to start with wine at a wine bar. Clearly Spoke is not “just a wine bar” though. Can’t wait to come back and try more if everything.

I have now been back as often as I possibly can. I have brought my child who is vegetarian, my husband who eats no dairy, and my friend who has a severe gluten allergy and the staff from front of house to the kitchen have been extremely diligent in letting us know what items on the menu would be ok for each dietary restriction. They don’t just bring out pre-made alternate gf options they make crackers that are gluten-free in house to serve with the cheeses and dips. Much of the menu is already well rounded so that it fits in with people’s needs and the kitchen is careful to swap out the grill when needed for...
