Barnaby's is very definately a unique and local twist on Pizza. It is really unlike any pizza I've had, locally, regionally, across the U.S., or even world-wide.
They serve sandwiches, Pizza, and alcohol. Soft drinks too.
Their uniqueness STARTS with the 'Oldè Ènglish Pub' atmosphere they foster, and the Family / large group friendlyness that comes with it. When entering, you walk into the dining area, filled with, not tables and chairs, but wooden booths, which sits between the doors and the ordering counter, behind which the kitchen is fully visible. Drinks, from water to soda to beer, are sold at the bar. A short walk to the other side of the room (not through), just follow the counter. You are free, of course, to order drinks or refills at any time.
Barnaby's Pizzas are made on a large grain flour base, similar to corn-meal flour. Not as part of the dough, just, it seems, acting as a non-stick ingredient. But definately adding to the Barnaby's experience.
They usually are a thin-but-flexible crust pizza. Not a deep-dish or crispy-thin, as other pizzerias make.
The final twist to a Barnaby's Pizza is, rather than slices, that they are cut into square(ish) bites.
Though many people might say that it's not a Barnaby's Pizza if it's served without stacks of little paper cups filled with Parmesan Cheese and/or Hot Pepper Flakes.
Some people LOVE Barnaby's Pizzas, and though it is not my favorite pizza, it was, I believe, my first meal in South Bend, so still holds a special place in my heart.
You won't be sorry if you try Barnaby's Pizza, I guarentee. Though, like me, you may like an other pizza more.
Though it is still a chain, South Bend has certianlly put her mark on it... or was that the...

I had a really frustrating experience with a carryout order at the Jefferson location. I showed up at the estimated pickup time and was told it would be about 7 more minutes—not a problem. But 30 minutes later, still no food.
While I waited, I saw an employee hand a pizza to another customer without checking the ticket. That person left, only to return 10 minutes, or more, later with the pizza—because it was the wrong order. Turns out, it was mine. And the staff was just going to hand it to me like it hadn’t left the building.
What made it worse was when they tried to say he never left with it, even though I watched the whole thing happen. I asked how long it would take to remake it, and they said about an hour. At that point, I’d already been waiting long enough and wasn’t about to sit around for another hour.
I asked if they could at least offer a discount, mostly just out of frustration—and that’s when one of the guys yelled across the store, “Discount! I need a discount over here!” like it was a joke.
In the end, I just took the food and left, but when we got home, none of us wanted to eat it. We all kind of stared at it like it was a game—who’s going to be the first to risk it?
Total waste of $54 and honestly just a bad experience all around. I won’t be back.
"Once food has been served to a customer, it shall not be re-served to another person." (Indiana Food Code, mirroring 2017 FDA Food Code § 3-306.14)
This applies even more strictly to takeout orders because the food may have:
Been transported,
Sat in a car,
Been opened or...
Read moreDrove a hour to go here and eat. Waited hour and twenty minutes for one pizza and I seen the problem as I have been working in restaurants all my life sometimes you need to take advice from others and maybe try their suggestions. 1 your guys are working hard but the problem is..as I seen the guy cutting the pizzas needs a brake give him 5mins. He is warn out! Do you rotate your guys? It could have been easy to take a guy out of the other side and replace the guy cutting for a bit. It’s was totally backed up with DONE pizzas and idea have everyone stop grab a done pizza and get those out.. Our Friday night was getting off work going have dinner and it was an Awful wait.. I waited watching the guy cutting struggle he wasn’t even getting the numbers of orders called out because the speaker system was not working correctly. 2 stop taking orders for a few minutes to get orders out there has to be a line out the door waiting on done pizzas for your entertainment? The girls are looking for orders when pizzas could be cut and out by the time they find one. Is there another spot for cutting and boxing and getting pizzas out. Gotta be a different way you can handle this better. Rotation for workers is a factor and girls did great finding orders, the guy getting pizzas out of oven could be cutting as he’s waiting also just saying what I was seeing. Hope you guys all have a better night! Only way I’d go back if I called it in and didn’t stay! Great employees even the bus guys were very...
