OK, I don't know who is leading these good reviews!! Was taking our four-year-old granddaughter to Howard Park and she wanted to go to an ice cream shop as well. I look for one nearest the park and of course this is right across the street. When we got there it appeared not to be open but there was a little paper clock on the window saying they opened at 4:00. We went back at four and it still didn't look open, no lights on, etc. but tried the door and it was open. A young man was sitting in the front window at a table working a model or something jumped up and scurried behind the counter, still no lights. We are peering into the dark case, trying to see the ice cream in the semi darkness, which looked like it had been there since May probably. He finally turned the lights on in the case and she made her selection. It made me nervous for you for even to eat that ice cream! This place was so dirty and creepy, I wouldn't recommend...
Read moreI never like writing low-star reviews but unfortunately I have to for this place. We gave them a couple of tries and it’s just straight up bad. As you approach what appears to be a two-story residential house, you’re met with knee-high grass, poor landscaping, and you have to duck under branches just to even get to the outside seating. If you decide to eat inside, you’ll be met with similar dirty, unkempt conditions.
It’s such a great location across from Howard Park and close by restaurants. You almost have to try hard to be this poorly run. Great ice cream is obviously great. Mediocre ice cream will still turn people into repeat customers at a great location. And then there’s this place. It’s just really bad uninspired ice cream with an equally uninspiring atmosphere inside and out. It truly is a shame.
Ps. For those wondering about the photos of a lot of tables, they had a location along the East Race before the...
Read moreThe owner of The Whistle Stop is a food artist. He took great care to make our sundaes look as attractive as they were delicious. We were delighted to discover he takes a dollar off his sundae price on Sunday, making his 2 scoop sundae cheaper than a 2 scoop bowl! Yes, please! When his whipped cream dispenser emptied, I was thrilled to see him pull a glass jug of cream from a local creamery near my home out of his cooler to make a new, homemade batch right there in front of us. Whipped cream never tasted so good!! The ice cream was fabulous! The hot fudge was perfect! I'm so glad I searched "ice cream near me" tonight!...
