Maxi's Food & Spirit Barn — Restaurant in South Bend

I don't like giving low ratings, but I want my ratings to reflect my experience. To those who have never been. The inside is like the inside of a barn. It's pretty unique and cool to me. The lighting set the mood for a nice night out.

During this trip, we only had to wait like 20 minutes. They did give us the option of eating upstairs in the "lounge". But, we declined. We were sat in a booth close to the entrance. There was a sort of fence-type wall, so privacy wasn't an issue. The issue for us, was the cold breeze from the exterior door. We were able to tolerate it.

I felt the menu offered a good variety from which to choose. I went with fried chicken, my husband went with grilled chicken. The server was very attentive, refilling drinks promptly. I ordered the sweet tea. It was really good. I ordered a salad. It was ok. Nothing to write home about. When my plate came out I was surprised. For whatever reason, I imagined something else when I ordered. I thought I was getting fried chicken patties, like the sandwich option. That was on me. What I got instead was a half chicken, all the pieces were individually fried. My husband was like you should have seen your face. I don't typically order fried chicken because it doesn't always come out right. Unfortunately, that was the case here. It was slightly overcooked (sorry no pictures, I remembered too late). It also didn't seem to be seasoned at all. My husband said, "you must not be hungry". I was. I just didn't like the food, and I didn't want to complain. For my baked potato, I asked for sour cream and butter. They give you packets of "buttery spread". I don't eat margarine. With this being a sit-down restaurant, I was expecting real butter.

Maxi's barn on ireland road is the ABSOLUTE worst place to go for dinner. They litterally didnt give us all of our party's food. 6 couples and 4 food items never brought out nor compensated for on the ticket! Played musical tables with us. Spun boards above my aunt and my moms heads for over 30 min. Waitress said "f$ck". Food took over an hour to get to us. Food sucked. One person in our group got served something that wasnt what he ordered at all! Charged us a dollar more then it should have been on almost every ticket SO WATCH YOUR TOTALS! When we asked for a manager couldnt get one. Waitress tried to literally come at me like she was going to fight me I told her to bring it! Had to get loud and I mean LOUD to finely get a manager! Was told by waitress to "get out" told her to give me my card then she tried to threaten the police to be called for not paying my ticket when she had my card cause I was trying to pay and told me to get out! I swear WORST place ever. Had this booked for over a week almost 2 weeks! Manager followed us out and briefly talked to us about what happened when we told her we had asked for her several times she was completely unaware since our waitress Tiffany never told her we were asking for her! I wish the waitress would have tried to touch me because I would have been more then fine filling charges on the establishment and aggravated assult on...

So disappointed ☹️ A picture's worth a thousand words and this is what they call a Rye Melt, I was soooo disappointed $15.00 - $17.00 I paid for the worst sandwich I've ever had, and I go to many places I'm also a private contractor and deliver food for a living and I'm a serious Google guide the waitress was awesome but the cook he/ she has definitely lost their Spark ya all need Gordon Ramsey to visit and I suggest a new cook who cares about appearance, the onions weren't even grilled and for this type of sandwich the onions should be sliced a lot thinner, the burger was dry as the the Sahara desert and the Rye bread was barely grilled, the prices on the menu were shocking the best thing about my meal was the Miller lite I had and my husband agreed regarding his bud light and my granddaughter well one couldn't complain with her dino nuggets !!!
