It's been years since I've been to a Ramen shop. The last time I was in an actual Ramen Shop, it was when I was stationed in Okinawa. This was very reminiscent of that experience. I had the Tokatsu Ramen and the Takoyaki. The texture of the noodles was awesome. The broth was flavorful. The pork was so tender, I could chew it between my tongue and the roof of my mouth. Each takoyaki ball was filled with octopus. There was no skimping on that. I had a great experience overall. For dessert, I had the Taiyaki with Red Bean Paste. I didn't get a chance to take a photo of that because that was gone before I had a chance to do so. My family's experience was a little mixed. My wife had the chicken teriyaki bowl. The chicken wasn't as tender as the 4th. I had somewhat of a rubbery texture. Even though the texture of the chicken was a little off, the flavor was great. Also, the broccoli was a little too raw for her taste. My son had the Chicken Shoyu Ramen. Again, with the chicken, the texture was a little rubbery. But the flavor of the broth and the texture of the noodles was spot on. It reminded me of all those years ago when I was in Okinawa. I gave it four stars, only because of the texture of the chicken, and the rawness of broccoli. We will definitely be coming back. There was so much more on the menu that I wanted to try. Great...
Read moreBeing in the army I have traveled to various locations and tried different foods both good and bad. My favorite food is ramen and with moving to South bend for my new Army location there are limited options for ramen in this area. I searched the Okasan ramen resturant and notice all the great reviews when it comes to their ramen. As any other person who see good reviews for a meal they enjoy I tried the place out. I tried the miso and the tonkotsu ramen and when the bowls came to my table it looked great. The nice slices of pork, the boiled egg, and all the other fixings. My mouth was watering and I was ready to take a nice slurp of ramen, but where they failed was the taste and let me tell you it was not good at all. The pork had a strong porky taste that was not fresh. The ramen had a terrible after taste and the boba tea was artificial with a horrific after taste as well. I was able to atleast finish one bowl of ramen and the boba tea due to only ensuring I had something in my stomach since I have not eaten all day in anticipation of having some good ramen. I would recommend that they find out what is causing that after taste in the ramen and I may come back again. I honestly wanted to like it but I guess I will be eating packaged ramen until my next duty...

To begin, the overall experience has been wonderful. Clean, simple setup, efficient service...
In terms of the actual food, the ramen is by far the best that is available in the area and at this price point. However, as someone from the east coast who has dined at countless ramen establishments, Okasan does not stack up just quite yet. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and my partner ordered a spicy one... there was a sweet teriyaki-adjacent sauce drizzled on my tonkatsu that made the broth overwhelmingly sweet, and both of us noticed that the soy soy marinated egg was very cold.
I understand that these eggs must be marinated in soy sauce for hours before serving, and am not complaining about the freshness. I know they come out of a cooler or fridge, and this is not a bad thing, but placing too many cold ingredients in a hot broth drastically cools something that is otherwise meant to be a hot dish.
I am fully confident my meal was prepared for me after I ordered it, but there is room for improvement. I would love to be a regular here, as I live 2 minutes away, but need for certain things to change...
