I finally made it to Matrioska Bakery in Shelburne… and wow. I’m still thinking about it.

When we walked in, it felt like stepping into a fairytale — not the over-the-top kind, but something quiet and nostalgic, like an old Slavic storybook. Warm, inviting, with little cozy touches that made me feel like I was somewhere far away, yet completely at home.

But let me talk about the thing that stole my heart: their honey cake. I’ve had honey cakes before — I grew up with them, I’ve tried versions across different countries — but nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to this one. It’s rich, soft, perfectly balanced, and it honestly tastes like it was made by someone’s grandma with generations of love. I almost didn’t want to finish it because I didn’t want it to be over.

We ordered 15 pizzas from Good Times Cafe for an end-of-season sports' banquet. We ordered a variety of pizzas from the chicken bacon ranch, the Bumble Q, Goat, meat lovers, meatball, pepperoni, and cheese. The team and families absolutely LOVED the freshly baked pizzas, especially enjoying the combinations on the specialty pizzas. Fantastic homemade crust and fresh toppings. The staff was also so helpful and kind from the ease of ordering to carefully carrying and loading the pizzas into my vehicle. This is a wonderful local business and I would highly recommend for catering or if you're looking for a new spot to try for lunch or dinner with fresh, whole food...

After losing out on two very popular breakfast/brunch spots one rainy Sunday morning, we happened upon this empty café. Brunch options would have been welcome, but we settled for lunch instead and enjoyed excellent warming chicken borscht with big, hot sandwiches and fresh salads. Too much, in fact. Adding pierogis or blintzes would give this place lines out the door on a weekend and competition with Rustic Root or the Dutch Mill.; there are not too many local options on this stretch between South Burlington and Shelburne....
