This was our second time at Double Dogs. Last time was last July, which was infinitely better. Unfortunately, this visit was poor all around. Im only basing this review on this visit, since it's the most recent.
Honestly, we loved going there last year, which is why we came back (on our yearly trip to Greenville). I'm really hoping this was an anomaly. We may go back again next year to see if we get the experience we had last year.
Here's what happened this time around.
It was a Monday, and we arrived at about 7:00 for dinner. We were able to get a seat right away, at a very oddly arranged corner booth. We didn't really order anything out of the ordinary. I had a buffalo burger, which I actually thought was decent, although I ordered it medium rare (as the menu suggested) and it was served medium well. My wife had a Bo burger and my kids both had Chicken tenders and fries. I would definitely recommend to Double Dogs that the kids meals stop being served with dill pickles, especially when the pickles are buried under the fries. Doing that made a lot of the fries taste like dill pickles which both my kids really disliked. My wife's burger was "forgettable" as she described it. Since we're on vacation, we've been eating out a lot (which we don't do unless we're on vacation). I think she only ate half of it.
Honestly, the food is the least of the problem.
Our server made us feel like we weren't welcome almost the entire time we were there. My daughter (who is 6) asked if they had chocolate milk, and the server rolled her eyes, like it was a massive problem.
She did make a point to come over, while we were eating, to check if we wanted or needed anything, but it felt more like she was checking on us because we were being too slow. There were plenty of empty tables though, so it wasn't like there was a crush of people waiting for a table to eat at. We also were there for about an hour and ten minutes total.
As soon as one plate was done (which was mine) she came over, took my plate and asked if we wanted the check. Keep in mind that everyone else was still eating at the table. I said no, and that we may want dessert. She quickly said that they had 2 desserts and rattled them off. I asked if they just had some vanilla ice cream, and she said "no, just the 2 desserts". It really felt like she was trying to get us out so they could prepare for the next night, however it was barely 8:00 and they were open until 10:00.
Everyone else hurried their dinners along, while 2 servers put a dishwashing rack on the table next to us and started filling it and then started sweeping tables around us. It was not a relaxing dining experience.
If we go back next year, I'll definitely...
Read moreOh boy, let me tell you about my recent escapade to Double Dogs on Pelham Road in Greenville, South Carolina! As soon as I walked in, I felt like I was entering a magical kingdom of meat and mustard. The place is decked out with sports memorabilia—it's like ESPN threw up in there, but in a good way! I half expected to see a life-sized cutout of my buddy Larry in a hot dog suit!
Now, let’s talk about the menu. It’s a glorious tome of tasty choices! I mean, I was torn between a burger and a hot dog, like a kid trying to choose between ice cream and cake—why not both, right? I went for the “Doggone Good” hot dog, and let me tell you, it was so big I thought it might just take a nap on my plate! I could barely see the bun under all that chili and cheese. If there was a hot dog championship, this one would take home the gold, the silver, and probably the bronze too!
And the fries? Oh boy, they were crispier than my dad jokes! I dipped them in ranch sauce because, let’s face it, ranch makes everything better. It’s like the fairy godmother of condiments! I even tried to convince my kids that ranch is a vegetable, but they weren't buying it. Who needs health food when you have a plate of loaded nachos the size of your head, right?
Now, don’t get me started on the drinks! I ordered a sweet tea so good it made me want to break out my best “y’all” and do a little Southern jig. The staff was friendly, making me feel like I was in my own sitcom. They even brought me a complimentary dessert—a chocolate cake that was so rich I half expected it to start charging me rent!
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a place to chow down with the family, Double Dogs is the spot. It’s got food that’ll make you laugh, smile, and maybe even do a little dance. So, grab your bib and get ready for a knee-slapping, belly-filling good time! Trust me, you’ll leave with a doggy bag and a smile wider than a slice of...
Read moreSo my first time here and I am on the fence about trying it again. The fried pickles were crispy with a great sauce. The negative is they were not drained properly and the oil was not hot enough. Very greasy and left an unpleasant grease layer on my lips.
I had the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with Thai salad. First bite was a new taste the second and so on too greasy. I am guessing they use a high fat content beef. Which can make a great burger when on an open flame grill. Unfortunately this was done on a flat top and it basically stayed saturated in the fat while being cooked. Was also not a fan of the flattened bun, which was basically a grease sponge. As far as the Thai Salad went it was pretty much bland. If you are going to name a dish after a region, please know the vegetables you are using. Edamame is Japanese not Thai. Second of all that was the “only” regional vegetable that was used. It missed the flavor mark. My companion had a cheeseburger with the same grease experience. She had the fries with ranch. Fries could have been amazing but missing seasoning and not crispy! Maybe pre-Blanche the fries if you don’t? The ranch had a very eggy taste to it. Yes we were told they make it in house with eggs. Well if it is ranch the seasoning should definitely not be over powered by the egg!
Service! We were greeted and seated promptly. Our host was extremely polite and very friendly. Our waitress (I missed her name) was also very polite and extremely nice. She was very attentive and on point with everything!! The theme and presentation of some foods in dog bowls was excellent. I think the selection of foods is great as well. We came on a Friday night at 6:30 so I do know kitchens can get...
