The first time I walked into Frankie’s, I got greeted with a smile, a dude tossing dough behind the counter and some of the best pizza I’ve had in the Upstate. This is now my third time at Frankie’s and that excellent service hasn’t wavered a bit, but more on that later.
The Pizza: Fantastic! Fresh dough, baked fresh with fresh ingredients. The dough is flavorful and light; crunchy but not tough or heavy. I’ve had a White, Pepperoni and a Margherita and all three of them have been exquisite symphonies of flavor. I’m about to move from the Upstate and I’m sad that I haven’t event here more because quite frankly the pizza wrecks everything I’ve had (the best being Venus Pie in Spartanburg).
The Sandwich: I currently am eating a Chicken Parm Grinder and this is the CP sandwich I’ve been looking for. The chicken cutlets are appropriately sized for the bread and there’s no spill over and absolutely no sogginess whatsoever. Additionally, the chicken looks and tastes like it was fried right before going on the sandwich. It’s light, crunchy and is able to be tasted in the mix of the sauce and the cheese. The sauce is flavorful and not heavy either. It’s just… GOOD. Unfortunately though, my sandwich was supposed to be an Eggplant Parm….
The Service: The man who made the made the sandwich identified the issue before my sandwich made it out to me and offered to let me have the chicken and still make me and EP to go, which I turned down. He was happy to do it (at least visibly) and offered multiple times. Additionally, he hooked me up with a cannoli on the house, and he didn’t need to. My man, if you read this, truly thank you for being so cool about it.
TL:DR, fresh delicious pizza and sandwiches, good prices, fresh ingredients, care about the product and a great place. Also they have great lunch specials. 10/10. ...
Read moreI ordered four pizzas for pick up during the lunch hour. I was told they would be ready in 25-30 minutes. As I had people who needed to leave at a certain time, I was anxious that it be ready in a timely manner. I was there within the 25 minutes and heard the cook say it would be an additional 10 minutes. It was not ready for another 20 minutes totalling over 45 minutes from the time I ordered it. When I asked for the second time how much longer it would be, the owner (?) asked snidely if there was something he could do for me. Then he proceeded to tell me how many customers walked in after my order and that they had to serve them first. What I walked away with was that my business as a customer picking up their pizza was MUCH LESS valuable than a customer eating in their establishment.
On top of that, they got my order wrong and I ended up with four pepperoni pizzas and no cheese pizza🙄. Having lived in New York for over five years, I love NY pizza and in that, it doesn’t disappoint but I find it to be expensive and not very customer friendly. Whether I will be back or not has...
Read moreFor the amount we paid, the food and service was simply an insult all the way around. As people from NY/NJ, we know good pizza. This isn't it. The dough on every pizza (and every item that had bread) was very airy and dry - more like the inside of 3-day old Italian bread. By the time the food hit our plates, it was as stiff as a board - and this was food fresh out of their oven! Also, there's nothing like entering a dirty, unkept business that you paid a lot of your hard-earned money on. I have no idea what was going on, but the pizza-makers were filthy - and you could tell it was food from about a week ago on their clothes. Even still, we tried to go in and make eye contact, say hello, say thank you, say no problem (when we had to wait longer for the food), etc. How did they reciprocate? With stares, no reaction, and an attitude as if we didn't just give service to their business (which, by the way, pays your salary!). Never again. Sticking with Bertolo's around the corner - nice people, MUCH CLEANER, and...
