Fuddruckers — Restaurant in South Carolina

The manager (or whoever assisted us with our order) was pleasant, but it was a very disappointing experience. We've been coming to this Fuddruckers for years and have never had a bad experience -- until today. I'm not sure if they were training new staff or what, but it prompted our kids (and my husband) to say, "Next time Red Robin!"

We came to Fuddruckers for a late lunch, celebrating my 9 year old's birthday, at his request. We came in around 2:30 -- so it wasn't busy at all. Specifically this joint appealed to us as we have one vegetarian in the mix, and Fuddruckers has a black bean burger and options that do not involve dairy (easy -- no cheese on the burger!).

First, the kitchen dropped the black bean burger on the floor... and it was, apparently, the last one. We were offered a grilled cheese replacement -- but this kid cannot have dairy products. So we were given a large fry to replace the meal. Except -- next -- we are told that the kitchen burnt the kids' order of chicken tenders and most of the fries for our table (party of five, all with fries), so they had to re-do the orders. So, the vegetarian had nothing to eat for quite a while, and the younger children were left sharing one very small amount of fries that the kitchen pulled from somewhere. Eventually we received the orders, but the kids were beyond starving at that point and we had been waiting for quite a while (considering how few customers were in the store -- too long, imo).

To top everything off, the sprite was spitting seltzer water, a couple condiments were completely empty and hadn't been replaced (we had to find someone to replace them), my husband's burger was very overcooked (they asked how he wanted it cooked, and shouldn't ask if they are going to serve all burgers one way -- very well done), and the one kid who did order a grilled cheese (the Birthday Boy) received something that looked more like two stale pieces of bread with somewhat melted cheese in the middle -- not at all browned or grilled by a long shot.

On the way out, the Birthday Boy and his siblings desired some cookies and brownies, so we stopped and ordered at the cookie counter. She took our order (of many cookies, of varying types, in duplicate of each), bagged our orders and gave them to us -- and then proceeded to tell us that the manager had taken her drawer and we would need to walk to the main order counter to tell the cashier THERE exactly what we ordered and to pay. Seriously?

I LOVE Fuddruckers! The owners are beyond wonderful and I’ve never had a bad experience in the last 20 years I’ve eaten their food. I placed an order today via DoorDash, which I have done multiple times, and I encountered my first horrible employee employed by Fuddrucker. Sadly when ordering on DoorDash you are unable to select or free write condiments you’d like to add to your burger or sandwich you can choose from the bar when eating at the restaurant. With that being said, I know if I want to add the lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and hot cheese from the bar I have to call the restaurant and have them prepare those condiments and put them I. The bag for when the DoorDash driver picks up the food. I have done this several times in the past and all these condiments have arrived with my food at delivery. So today I placed my order via DoorDash and called the fuddruckers on woodruff rd within seconds of my confirmation on DoorDash. So I called and I believe a girl named Hailey answered the phone. I told her my name and explained I had ordered a burger and fries via DoorDash. I asked kindly if she would make a note to add lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, hot nacho cheese, mayo, mustard and ketchup to my bag for the driver to pick up. She then stated she could not do that and I would need to tell my driver to add those items from the bar to my order. I nicely stated that I had ordered several times from Fuddruckers on woodruff rd and called each time to get those items added and I have encountered a problem with this condiments added. She then continued to argue with me that she would not do that. I again stated she is the first person I have ever encountered that gave me a hard time about added those items to my order. I told her that if she refused to assist me to let me speak to another employee or the supervisor on staff. Once I said that she said she’d “do it this one time” and then had an attitude with me for the remainder of the call. For this minor incident I feel she was rude, condescending and unprofessional. After receiving my order via DoorDash, the condiments I requested were not added and I very disappointed with my purchase. I also reached out to my dasher to confirm those condiments were added as requested but I did not get a response either. The whole experience was disappointing and...

I really hate to give a bad review to a place my family has gone to and loved for years. We have had birthday parties here as well as made it a tradition to go on special occasions and always go after trick or treating every Halloween. That being said we had an overall disappointing experience this evening. Granted we went around 4pm which I consider the restaurant lull, and we are in the middle of a pandemic, but nothing seemed to be consistent with past experiences. The girl at the register was brand new and struggled to take our order therefore it got slightly messed up... no big deal but the food was the real disappointment. The bun was different on my burger and it wasn’t good. Very plain with no taste. This has always been one of my favorite parts. My wife got the taco salad and the beef was cold. She was unable to eat it. We were also shorted a grilled cheese and the fries on a combo which I know I ordered but the cashier I guess forgot to ring out. We were then asked to go back and pay for the grilled cheese so they could make it even though we already had our food. I spent a ton of time at the counter trying to gather the correct food while my family started without me. I would have loved to have spent more time with my 13 year old on his birthday rather than just trying to get my order correct. My wife says she won’t go back. Very disappointed. There are to many burger joints around for Fuddruckers not to set themselves apart and be their very best. Fuddruckers failed at this. Please step up your game. We love you and don’t want to see you go out...
